School districts everywhere are creating AI guidance, but what practices are emerging as the most effective?
In this edWebinar, join Matthew Winters, Jennifer Ehehalt, and Sue Thotz as they explore the common patterns appearing across AI literacy guidebooks from districts across the country. Instead of focusing on individual districts, this session curates the best ideas that are rising to the top and highlights practical approaches that schools are using to build responsible, confident AI use.
Attendees will explore a simple framework that brings together building clarity and shared expectations, growing educator confidence through professional learning, teaching students how to question and use AI responsibly, creating common language through competencies and rubrics, and communicating with families to build trust.

About the Presenters
Matthew Winters is the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Educational Specialist for USBE, the Utah State Board of Education. He was formerly a Product Manager and Statewide Trainer for Utah Education Network. He was the Utah Coalition for Educational Technology (UCET) President for 2022-2024. He was awarded the Education Innovation Award for Impact at ASU+GSV, one of the International Society for Technology in Education’s 20 to Watch in 2023, and one of District Administrator’s Top 100 Innovative Educators in 2025. He is a former English language arts teacher at the secondary and college levels.
Jennifer Ehehalt is the Senior Regional Manager at Common Sense Education and a seasoned educator with over 20 years of experience. Previously an elementary educator, she now leverages her deep understanding of classroom dynamics to design and deliver impactful professional development programs for educators nationwide. Jennifer specializes in onboarding school districts and creating customized implementation plans for successful digital literacy initiatives, including wellness and fostering a positive school culture through technology. She has successfully onboarded hundreds of school districts and helped them implement effective digital learning strategies. Jennifer holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and a master’s degree in educational leadership.
Sue Thotz (she/her) is the Director of Outreach for Common Sense Education and Co-founder of Equity in Action CA. In 2011, Sue began working for Common Sense by providing support and training for educators and administrators on issues of digital culture and wellness. As a co-founder of Equity in Action CA, she has facilitated conferences that emphasize the importance of identity and belonging and strive to amplify marginalized voices in the education technology space. Sue is the winner of the 2023 CUE Making IT Happen Award. Prior to Common Sense, Sue was a researcher and educator. Sue holds a master’s degree in public health and an undergraduate degree in zoology and chemistry.
