Developing a LEAN Mindset for Effective Teaching & Learning
Thursday, March 8, 2018 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm EST
Presented by Dr. Sal Menzo, Superintendent, Wallingford Public Schools, CT; and Joseph Corso, Principal, Lyman Hall High School, Wallingford, CT
Sponsored by Nureva
Drawing conceptually from LEAN philosophy and design thinking, in this edWebinar, learn that a LEAN Mindset is characterized by learning how to increase effectiveness of a process. As a result of the increased effectiveness, often efficiencies are identified that lead to cost savings.
Dr. Sal Menzo, Superintendent of Wallingford Public Schools in Connecticut; and Joseph Corso, Principal of Lyman Hall High School in Connecticut, share concrete examples that will stimulate participants to apply these strategies not only to their teaching and learning, but also to their personal and professional growth in problem solving. By personalizing these challenges and then learning about LEAN Mindset, participants will be prepared to begin the process of charting a course for meaningful and sustainable innovation in their classrooms and districts.
Teachers and administrators at all levels will benefit from watching this recorded edWebinar. Learn how you can develop a LEAN Mindset for effective teaching and learning.
About the Presenters
Dr. Salvatore Menzo is the superintendent of Wallingford Public Schools in Connecticut.
He started his career as a middle school English/language arts teacher. Since his teaching days, he served as a building administrator at the middle level. In 2005, Dr. Menzo became the youngest superintendent in the country at the time, and since then has spent over half of his educational career in that role. Dr. Menzo has lead Wallingford Public Schools on its path toward achieving the Wallingford 100–100% Community Involvement and 100% Student Engagement to lead to 100% Student Success. In doing so, innovation has been key to all the success in Wallingford. Leveraging past international experience in Japan and the United Arab Emirates, a global mindset is central to the district’s work. As a result, Dr. Menzo facilitated with staff and student partnerships in China, Argentina and Germany.
Nationally, Dr. Menzo has leveraged a partnership with Office Depot and IBM to provide revenue for the school district while accessing state-of-the-art resources for staff, students and families. In recognition of his efforts with students, families, staff and the community to move forward progressive educational opportunities in Wallingford and in the state of Connecticut, Dr. Menzo received the 2016 University of Connecticut NEAG School of Education Outstanding School Superintendent.
Joseph Corso currently serves as the principal of Lyman Hall High School in Wallingford, CT where he strives to provide students with the skills needed to be successful in life after high school. Joe has a wide variety of education experiences which have provided him with an understanding of the difficulties faced by administrators from urban to rural areas across Connecticut. Joe has spent over 18 years in education, almost all of which he has also served in the United States Army Reserve where he is currently a Major in the Atlantic Division. From his time in the military to his experiences in education, Joe is a proven leader always looking to push his soldiers, teachers and students beyond the limits of what they think is possible.
