This edWebinar offers a deep dive into how autism spectrum disorder (ASD) characteristics influence student behavior and how structured routines, transitions, and procedures can effectively minimize these challenges. About the Presenters
Penney Patterson Owens, M.Ed., BCBA is the Manager of Professional Development and Learning at Stages Learning. She completed her master’s degree in early childhood special education at Vanderbilt University. Penney has served school systems in Alabama and Tennessee for over 15 years as a special education teacher, a BCBA consultant, and a district behavior analyst. She has a passion for professional development in behavior management and skill acquisition, and has developed several training programs for teachers, parents, and siblings of individuals with disabilities. Penney served as a districtwide consultant for the implementation of Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS), and believes in the integration of social-emotional supports and behavior interventions into the Response to Intervention (RTI) model. She is a co-author of the book Successful Problem-Solving for High-Functioning Students With Autism Spectrum Disorders and has presented at multiple local and nationwide conferences during her career.
Frankie Kietzman is an autism advocate, guardian for her brother, and District Relations Director for STAGES® Learning with over a decade of teaching experience in specialized settings. Frankie builds awareness for neurodiverse individuals through public speaking, training, consultation, and volunteer work. She has spoken at SXSW EDU and across the country regarding topics of neurodiversity, instructional practices, inclusion, and autism. Frankie has a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and master’s degrees in high- and low-incidence disabilities and advanced leadership in special education.
