Next Generation Science in the Garden

Where better to explore ecological interdependence, growth and development of organisms, structure and function, adaptation, and the environmental impact of human activity than in an outdoor garden classroom? In this edWeb webinar Whitney Cohen, Education Director at Life Lab and lecturer at UC Santa Cruz, let attendees know how to use a garden as a meaningful context in which students can engage in next generation science and engineering practices – and how this allows for an examination of disciplinary core ideas and cross-cutting concepts. Formal and informal educators interested in using a garden to enrich science learning and in connecting to the new K-5 Next Generation Science Standards benefited from this live, interactive webinar co-presented by the Edible Schoolyard Project, the National Farm to School Network, and Life Lab, and hosted by edWeb’s Growing School Gardens community.
