Getting the Most Out of eBooks in School: 50 Proven Tips

Yet the possibilities can be overwhelming and confusing.  In the LMC @ The Forefront community’s latest webinar, presenters shared 50 quick, practical, and proven tips for using eBooks effectively in the curriculum. A panel of four experienced educators presented fast-paced rounds of their own eBook tips as well as proven tips submitted from other educators. Attendees learned from the best practices of educators who have successfully used eBooks in a range of situations and types of schools. The presenters shared how to get started,  what lessons have worked for them, and how to align the lessons to Common Core Standards. Additionally, ideas for certain tools that are good for students with various learning abilities or at various reading levels were discussed. Meg Brooke, the Library Supervisor for JefCoEd Librarians at the Jefferson County Board of Education in Alabama, shared tips for reaching out to students and gathering input from the rest of the community.  Laurie Dunlap, a building librarian in Jefferson County, Alabama, talked about making the right purchase decisions  and managing your eBooks. Chris Abbott, a Library Media Specialist at Hadley Junior High School in Illinois, discussed some of the advantages of using OverDrive and how to plan your eBook budget. Debra Peterson, Head Librarian at Cooke Library at Punahou School in Hawaii, shared the many different uses of eBooks and the ease of managing a library.  View the webinar to learn how to make the most of your eBooks in your library!
