When it comes to literacy, questioning is a crucial part of the learning process. But for teachers, it can be easy to underestimate the time and effort it takes to create the right types of questions that spark students’ interest and support deeper levels of comprehension. After all, there is so much to consider: What types of questions should you ask? Should your questions place an emphasis on the right answer or critical thinking? Should your students be asking as many, or more, questions than you?

In this edWebinar, author and literacy expert Jill Eggleton discusses the art and science behind crafting robust questions that make shared, guided, and peer reading time more interactive and more effective, including:

  • Steps for how to craft more effective questions
  • Tips on turning a “good” question into a great one
  • Ways to strike the right balance between various question types (i.e. factual, divergent, higher-order, and more)
  • Ideas to help empower students to generate their own thought-provoking questions

K-5 classroom teachers, reading specialists, literacy coaches, administrators, and librarians as well as K-12 district-level elementary curriculum and instruction directors/coordinators, elementary reading directors/coordinators, and elementary remedial reading directors/coordinators are invited to watch this recorded session.
