Developing emotional intelligence (EQ) in students is essential to preparing them for success in college, careers, and adult life. In this edWebinar, Maurice J. Elias, Ph.D., and Steven E. Tobias, Psy.D., talk about what emotional intelligence is and why and how you can build valuable EQ skills in your students. They review and demonstrate sample lessons and activities related to assessing students’ EQ strengths, improving emotion recognition and management, exercising self-control, using assertive communication skills, and implementing effective problem solving.

Central to Drs. Elias and Tobias’s approach to EQ instruction is flexibility and pragmatism, and the belief that any educator can use these activities to increase EQ proficiency even with limited time or resources. School counselors, teachers, psychologists, other student support professionals, and administrators working with grades 5–9 are invited to watch this record session. Learn effective, practical, research-based strategies for helping every student strengthen these important skills.
