Bringing real-world science into the classroom is a powerful way to inspire, engage, and educate students—all while connecting them to exciting career pathways! Join scientist, educator, and science communicator Dr. Mike Heithaus and biologist turned award-winning filmmaker Patrick Greene for this edWebinar as they explore the latest technologies and discoveries in biology, then share how you can translate them into authentic classroom experiences.

About the Presenters

Mike Heithaus, Ph.D. is a Professor of Biology and Executive Dean of the College of Arts, Sciences & Education at Florida International University. A marine ecologist specializing in predator-prey interactions, Dr. Heithaus has published over 200 scientific articles and edited five books, as well as co-authored multiple K-12 textbooks and science programs. As an internationally renowned science communicator, Dr. Heithaus has hosted or appeared in more than 40 documentary films, including Discovery’s Shark Week and National Geographic’s SharkFest. He can be found studying sharks and other marine creatures in remote corners of the world or speaking to kids and their teachers at K-12 schools across the United States. 

Patrick Greene

Patrick Greene is a biologist turned filmmaker who has filmed wildlife and scientific research across the globe. As a multi-Emmy-Award-winning producer, he specializes in science programming and educational media, with his work featured on major networks including Disney+, Apple TV+, Nat Geo, PBS, and Discovery Channel. Driven by a passion for education, Patrick has produced over 500 educational videos, covering subjects from elementary science and high school biology and chemistry to middle and high school math, reaching millions of students in classrooms across the United States. As a Director/Executive Producer, he has contributed to over 100 productions, helping scientists bring their discoveries to the public and capturing the artistry and craftsmanship of artisans worldwide.
