This edWebinar is for teachers, coaches, principals, and school leaders seeking to build and support essential collaboration skills in their students. Join Linette Victor, Ed.D., Senior Research Program Manager at Digital Promise, to learn best practices from the free Collaborative Learning Toolkit. Then, hear from Jose Gonzalez, 21st Century Learning Specialist at Davis Middle School, who will share compelling classroom examples and insights from facilitating a cross-cultural collaboration between his students in Compton, California, and students in Manaus, Brazil.

You’ll leave with ready-to-use strategies and resources to implement high-impact collaborative learning in your classroom. You’ll also learn how to apply best practices in collaborative learning to the Ciena Solutions Challenge, a global design challenge for middle and high school students to design solutions to issues they care about. Through March 5th, participating teachers can apply for a $3,000 Ciena Solutions Challenge Sustainability Award to sustain and scale students’ projects.

Jose Gonzalez

About the Presenters

A nationally recognized educator for 23 years, Jose Gonzalez is currently the 21st Century Learning Specialist at Davis Middle School in the Compton Unified School District in Compton, California. Jose’s passion is for project-based learning and giving students the opportunity to have a voice and choice in the learning process. By introducing students to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and concepts of sustainability at a young age, his goal is to create a student-centered classroom where students are addressing real-world issues such as climate change and sustainability that affect their communities. Beyond having students learn technological knowledge and acquire 21st century learning skills, his mission is to bring awareness about our planet’s future and to teach students to become good global stewards.

Linette Victor

Linette Victor, Ed.D., is the Senior Research Program Manager for Researcher-Practitioner Collaborations and Communities at Digital Promise. With a strong background in grant coordination and STEM education, her work focuses on cultivating researcher-practitioner relationships and co-designing evidence-based instructional materials. Her goal is to ensure research findings are effectively translated into practical tools and strategies that can be readily adopted by practitioners for testing and implementation in educational settings.

Elyse Gainor

Elyse Gainor is a Program Director at Digital Promise, where she runs the YouthMADE Festival, a global celebration of youth creativity and innovation that culminates in a two-week festival annually in May. She also leads communications for the Ciena Solutions Challenge, a global design challenge for middle and high school students to design solutions for the Sustainable Development Goals.
