The development of successful problem-solving skills is a key part of mathematics learning. Through visualization and the model drawing approach, commonly used in Singapore Math®, students gain the skills they need to tackle increasingly complicated word problems from one grade level to the next. What is most exciting is that rather than using the usual student favorite—guess and check, or at least guess—with model drawing, students learn to tackle word problems with efficient and strategic visual models that lead to generalizations. This puts them on the road to algebra and future success in higher-level mathematics.

In this edWebinar, viewers will:

  • Understand the effectiveness of visual models and visualization to develop conceptual understanding and number sense
  • Explore and use the Singapore Math® model drawing approach to solve routine and non-routine word problems
  • Be able to use visual models to develop quantitative reasoning that leads to algebraic generalization
  • Enable more students to access complex problems using visualization and visual models

This recorded edWebinar will be of interest to K-8 teachers, school and district leaders, math curriculum directors, math coaches, and math department chairs.
