Fractions and decimals are critical elements of math understanding for upper elementary and middle school students. Teachers must help learners extend their understanding of whole numbers to include fractions and decimals. Our two-part spring 2016 webinar mini-series focused on quick strategies using common manipulatives to develop fraction and decimal understanding.

In this webinar, Dr. Sara Delano Moore shared activities which use common manipulatives to model operations with fractions and decimals. Learn new strategies for fraction and decimal operations with Base Ten Blocks, Cuisenaire Rods, and Fraction Towers.

Sara Delano Moore is the Director of Mathematics and Science at ETA hand2mind. Dr. Moore earned her Ph.D. from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, and also holds degrees from the University of Oxford (United Kingdom) and The Johns Hopkins University. She has taught mathematics and science in both public and private schools, and has served as Program Faculty Chair of the Middle Grades Teacher Education Program at the University of Kentucky.
