Most teachers agree that schoolwork relevant to real-world challenges and experiences plays a key role in keeping students engaged. In this webinar, learn how to use Spark 101’s free real-world, curriculum-connected case study videos to engage your students in problem-based learning, with authentic problems from business, government, nonprofits, and academia.
Shelley Johnson, Director of Education for Spark 101, and Susan Patterson, a high school math teacher, discussed ways to leverage this no-charge resource to give your students opportunities to apply their knowledge and skills to solve cool problems actually faced by industry professionals, while at the same time learning about potential career pathways.

Shelley and Susan also fielded questions from live webinar participants submitted throughout this webinar. Shelley Johnson is the Director of Education for Spark 101. With over 30 years of experience in education, as a classroom instructor and a director of educational technology in multiple districts, Shelley brings a unique perspective to providing teachers with web-based resources to support problem-based learning. Shelley has been actively involved in the Maryland Society for Educational Technology, the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, and the Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development. Susan Patterson is a high school math teacher at the Uplift Summit International Preparatory in Dallas, TX, where she teaches Algebra 2 and Pre-Calculus. She also is a Spark 101 Fellow. As a former research engineer for AT&T, Susan has brought excitement and rigor to her classroom in the form of real applications for more than 15 years.
