Michael has a wealth of experience as a CEO, author, and executive coach. In his current work coaching senior executives, he brings together leaders from diverse industries to work on their most difficult problems and sensitive challenges.

Michael has launched a new course, Executive Leadership in Publishing. “My goal is to help everyone work as a team, collaborate more effectively, and become better leaders,” he says.

Michael RossAbout the Presenter

Michael Ross is the CEO and founder of Ross & Associates, a boutique publishing and technology consultancy serving the entire publishing community from PreK through higher education. Prior to establishing Ross & Associates, LLC in 2017, Michael was the senior vice president and education general manager at Encyclopaedia Britannica, Inc., where he ran the product development and technology teams and led the sales and marketing activities in North America and EMEA (the UK, Europe, Middle East, and Africa).

Earlier in his career, he served as the executive vice president and publisher of World Book and held executive positions at several other publishing companies including NTC Publishing Group (now part of McGraw-Hill) and McDougal Littell before they were acquired by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. He began his publishing career as an editor for Time-Life Books and spent three years at their Tokyo bureau.

Michael has been inducted into two industry halls of fame (PrintMedia for production executives and the AAP for educational publishing) and is the author of four books on the business of publishing, most recently Publishing in the Digital Age: How Business Can Thrive in a Rapidly Changing Environment (Routledge, 2022). As an executive coach, Michael currently leads a Vistage CEO peer group, bringing together leaders from diverse industries to work on their most difficult problems and sensitive challenges. Michael holds a B.A., summa cum laude, from the University of Minnesota; an M.A. from Brandeis University; and a certificate from Stanford University’s Advanced Management College.

Lisa Schmucki founded edWeb.net in 2008 to provide a social network that could help educators and all professionals working in the field of education to connect and collaborate and break down the silos and traditional barriers in education. edWeb.net has become an award-winning professional learning network that serves a global community of 1 million educators.

Lisa is an education, publishing, and media industry veteran with 40 years’ experience in product development, professional learning, marketing, and entrepreneurship. She serves on the Board of the National Coalition for Technology in Education & Training (NCTET) and the Education Research & Development Institute (ERDI). Prior to founding edWeb, she held senior positions with Time, Macmillan, Peterson’s, Films Media Group, MKTG Services, Acxiom, and Achieve3000. She is a graduate of Princeton University and has a master’s degree from the Stern School of Business at NYU.
