With the upcoming election and current events, it is essential for students to develop critical thinking skills to evaluate information accurately. Join Jennifer Ehehalt, Sr. Education Manager at Common Sense Education, and Dr. Steve Tetreault of the New Jersey Association of School Librarians, as they share practical strategies to cultivate a classroom of civil discourse with lessons and quick activities to build essential news and media literacy skills for students.

Steve Tetreault

About the Presenters

Dr. Steve Tetreault has been working with students since 1998; he’s taught grades 7-12 and has been at his current middle school for 25 years. Dr. Tetreault has an M.Ed. (2006) and an Ed.D. (2014) in educational administration and supervision, and an M.I. degree in library and information science (2019). He is certified in New Jersey as a teacher, school library media specialist, supervisor, and administrator. Dr. Tetreault is a monthly contributor to AASL’s Knowledge Quest site and hosts the School Library Learning Network (SLLN) Podcast. He wrote and taught a class based around information literacy, which was a required course for all seventh graders for several years. In his free time, he loves to share ideas and resources. Dr. Tetreault firmly believes that information literacy is one of the most important skills we can teach students.

Jennifer Ehehalt

As Sr. Regional Manager, Jennifer Ehehalt designs and delivers high-quality professional development opportunities for educators across the country. She spotlights thought leaders by creating and moderating conversations on timely topics relevant to digital teaching and learning. When attending Jennifer’s edWeb sessions, participants know they will leave with concrete strategies from the field, including how to build a positive school culture, use straightforward templates to guide challenging conversations, and implement family engagement ideas.
