About the Presenters
Hope Thompson oversees NextWaveSTEM’s active programs and manages their ever-growing, cutting-edge curriculum offerings. Prior to her time at NWS, Hope was an elementary science teacher in Baltimore and Chicago Public Schools and held roles in instruction and curriculum design for robotics courses for PreK through third grade.
Adam Rangwala is a drone educator and professional with a drone-flying license. The approach he takes is to inspire students to think about the possibilities that drones present, simulate real-life scenarios, and improve STEM-related hard and soft skills.
Rev. Dr. Troy C. Underwood is an ordained pastor with a deep passion for helping others and addressing social justice issues. As the Executive Director of the Barbara W. Smith Family Life Center, an affiliate of Covenant United Church of Christ, he oversees administration, programs, strategic planning, and community outreach efforts. His leadership focuses on empowering the underprivileged and creating opportunities for personal and communal flourishing. Rev. Dr. Underwood holds a Bachelor of Arts from Morehouse College, a Master of Divinity from Chicago Theological Seminary, and a Doctor of Ministry from McCormick Theological Seminary. In partnership with NextWaveSTEM, the Barbara W. Smith Family Life Center launched AI and drone classes for youth in grades 3-8, providing students the opportunity to learn about the latest advancements in AI and drone technology and develop the skills needed to excel in this rapidly growing field.
