This edWebinar addresses key elements of that critical discussion between preschool teachers and parents: child assessment results. The goal is to make attendees comfortable and confident with these conversations and build stronger home-school relationships with all families. Laura L. Bailet, Ph.D., Chief Academic Officer for Kaplan Early Learning Company, helps viewers:

  • Identify barriers to sharing assessment results
  • Gain knowledge and identify strategies to reduce barriers
  • Understand developmental age scores and percentiles
  • Understand benefits of formative child assessment as an important tool to enhance teaching and learning

Dr. Bailet, a licensed school psychologist who worked in a pediatric clinical setting for many years, will share her perspective on child assessment and how to convey results with authenticity, humility, and confidence to parents. Examples from her many years of experience with all kinds of children and families will be shared. Viewers will reflect on their beliefs and concerns about child assessment, and past experiences sharing results with families. She discusses reasons that sharing assessment results is critical and acknowledge the unique challenges inherent in that effort. Basic principles of early childhood assessment and scores are also reviewed.

PreK teachers and school and district leaders will benefit from watching this recorded session. Gain practical information for negotiating this challenge more effectively with all families.
