Young children understand that water is essential to our daily lives. Water is for drinking, bathing, cleaning, cooking, and so much more. Outdoors, children engage with the natural water cycle through our experiences with weather, plants, and animals. Learning about water is especially relevant in nature-based learning environments in communities that value how we are for our Earth.

In this edWebinar, early childhood and STEM educator Ann Gadzikowski shares content knowledge and curriculum activities that explore the properties of water and the role of water in the natural world. We share and discuss water science curriculum ideas that demonstrate inquiry-based learning, responsive to children’s ideas and interests, in the context of a play-based curriculum. Hands-on activity examples include observing ice of different shapes and thicknesses, collecting water samples in nature, measuring rainfall and temperature, and inventing ways to filter dirty water.

This recorded edWebinar is of interest to PreK teachers.
