The Value of Synchronizing EL Instruction with Core Classes

The Value of Synchronizing EL Instruction with Core Classes

Too often, English Learner (EL) instruction is taught in isolation, especially when it comes to the content. Students are pulled out of class or scheduled for additional instruction, but the topics of the vocabulary, spelling lists, and grammar exercises bear no resemblance to the content in their core classrooms. Moreover, because the student is an EL, expectations are often lowered, and the student receives less rigorous texts in their main classwork.
