Is the application market transforming education? In edWeb community Emerging Tech’s May webinar, participants discovered apps that change the way students and teachers think about learning.
Empower students to publish one-of-a-kind books using photos, text, drawings and audio with Shutterfly’s Photo Story for iPad App. This free app is ideal for Project Based Learning and enriching your classroom literacy program, while enabling students to achieve many of the College and Career Readiness Standards in English Language Arts, Science, Math, and Social Studies.
Implementation doesn’t come with a download. Whether your student is using a free AAC app, a simple app, a complex app, or an app that costs hundreds of dollars, student and partner strategies probably aren’t as easy as the click was to install the app. Well there is no need to get discouraged and think that you have to download another app to get to AAC utopia!
Between cell phones and tablets, it seems that nearly every student has access to a video camera today. This month, edWeb community, Mobile Learning Explorations, held a webinar about using video to enhance student learning. Webinar presenter, Richard Byrne, Digital Learning Consultant for Free Technology for Teachers, shared some of the ways that attendees’ students can demonstrate knowledge of content and process – through the use of free video creation apps and web tools.
As Drew and Brad say, “We do not like presentations that talk about 100 great apps because teachers do not have time to get to #13 much less #100. We focus on 2 apps and augmented reality. We use these 2 apps each week and it has changed the game for us as educators.”
Schools across the country pledge to teach 21st century skills, but building a culture of collaborators can prove difficult. Luckily, Google Apps for education provides tools to transform an insular learning community into a collaborative one.
