Here is edWeb’s list of the top 2023 edWebinars and edLeader Panels of the year! Each year edWeb presents over 400 new programs on the most timely topics in K-12 education. This year, programs on reading, especially the Science of Reading, were the most popular. Artificial intelligence is our newest, popular topic on edWeb.
Most educators had not seen evidence of human trafficking happening in their schools, according to an audience poll conducted during the edLeader Panel “Human Trafficking Prevention Education in Schools.” Yet 90 percent of the high schools reviewed in a recent San Diego County study found evidence of local trafficking, according to Monica Dominguez, Coordinator of School Counseling for Socorro Independent School District (TX).
In 2018, Ector County Independent School District (TX) faced severe challenges. It was the lowest-achieving large school district in Texas, with a D rating, due to a teacher shortage, but by implementing high-impact tutoring programs with partners, things have turned around.
During the edLeader Panel “Decreasing Absenteeism and Its Effects with Meaningful Strategies,” Brian Marques, Sr. Director of Opportunity Youth for Boston Public Schools (MA), Aspen Florence, Educational Consultant for the Utah State Board of Education, and Cecelia Leong, Vice President of Programs for Attendance Works, provided insights into leveraging Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) and innovative approaches to understand and address chronic absenteeism and attendance barriers.

Creating equal learning opportunities for every student requires overcoming resource limitations, community values, staff culture, and more. Technology can be the linchpin for success, and three outstanding district leaders offer a roadmap any school can follow—no matter the challenges.
Improvements in students’ reading achievement require continued learning not just by the students, but also by their educators.
