There are important lessons to be learned about school safety in a post-pandemic America—and not all of them have to do with COVID-19. Since March of 2020, educators have been in survival mode with little attention, time, or resources allocated to the ongoing work of school safety and violence prevention. The brutal reality is that the events and circumstances of the recent past have not erased, but exacerbated the myriad of safety concerns that existed before the pandemic.
It is critical that schools respond to the current public health concerns, AND prevent a future school safety crisis by addressing the troubling question: What safety practices have we ignored while we were busy dealing with COVID? We must now transition from “survival” mode into “the next thing”—which must include an all-hazards approach to violence prevention and safety.
In this recorded edWebinar, explore the critical need for an all-hazards approach to school safety that empowers educators to plan for, prevent, and respond to a wide array of natural and man-made hazards. Vital, but often-overlooked crisis response principles, such as threat assessment, communication plans, parent reunification, violence-prevention initiatives, and improving school culture will be explored in a pragmatic, research-based fashion.
Come prepared to self-assess your district’s level of preparedness for preventing and responding to events and generate appropriate action steps to further the development of an all-hazards approach to safety. This recorded edWebinar will be of interest to K-12 teachers, school and district leaders, support staff, and board members.
