Music has the power to motivate communities to unite and take action to tackle critical environmental challenges. Join TeachRock for a discussion on the connection between education, environmental activism, and music, featuring unique perspectives from Indigenous musicians, politicians, and activists.

This session will prepare teachers to foster their students’ collaborative exploration of Earth’s most pressing environmental issues while discovering how music can inspire awareness and change using TeachRock’s Environmental Jukebox lesson collection. This edWebinar will be of interest to middle and high school teachers, librarians, school leaders, and district leaders.

This presentation and lesson collection are made possible in part by Positive Legacy, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to integrating music and service to benefit communities and the planet.

Ben Dumbauld

About the Presenters

Ben Dumbauld is the Director of Content at the Rock and Soul Forever Foundation, where he oversees the creation and publication of TeachRock.org’s materials. Before coming on board with the Foundation, Ben was working towards his Ph.D. in ethnomusicology at the CUNY Graduate Center and running a community media lab with the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation. For Ben, the most exciting part of working for the Foundation is providing students with new perspectives on math, science, language, and history through music. In addition to working with the Foundation, Ben runs a percussion program for kids and operates a small cassette tape label.

Gina Machado is the Director of Programs and Partnerships at TeachRock. Beginning her career as a classroom teacher in The Bronx, New York, she now designs arts-integrated education materials for TeachRock and leads professional development sessions across the United States, working alongside teachers to implement the TeachRock curriculum. An educator at heart, Gina’s true passion lies in creating new and innovative ways to reach students of all levels, always aiming to foster the student-teacher relationship.
