From the looks of it, too much has already been said about teacher survival, as if that was our goal—to survive classroom teaching while following the ever-growing list of mandates and budgeting for essentials like Starbucks and dry erase markers. “Oh, no thanks, I’m going to pass on the thriving thing, prefer merely surviving here,” says no honest person. How do we transition from surviving to thriving—and stay there—in education? The answer might be in doing something really scary like becoming a leader. But, is it really scary? Not if you decide to do what matters to you.

About the Presenter
Fawn Nguyen has been a classroom teacher since 1990. She is currently a math coach in Rio School District. She was the 2014 Ventura County Teacher of the Year. In 2009, she was awarded the Math Teacher Hero from Raytheon. In 2005, she was awarded the Sarah D. Barder Fellowship from the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth.
Fawn blogs about her lessons and classroom teaching and authors three websites for teachers. In addition to this work, she is also one of the editors for mathblogging.org. In 2012, she co-founded the Math Teachers’ Circle in Thousand Oaks, California. Currently, Fawn serves as a program advisor on Amplify Math.
