In this PD in Action edWebinar, the Wayne Township Public Schools team provides an update on their journey to reinvent professional learning for their whole staff, drawing on lessons they learned and resources they discovered during the pandemic. Their goal is to provide more personalized learning and better work/life balance with more flexible, virtual learning options.

The Wayne team takes you step by step through the timeline of their evolution from past practices that were not effective or aligned with district goals to the steps they’ve taken to improve their practice. They show creative ways they use tools for personalized, collaborative PD including edWeb.net, Google, Swivl, Zoom, and more. They also put a special emphasis on providing wellness resources for the whole staff. During this session, you learn:

• Why Wayne Township Public Schools decided to reinvent their professional learning program
• The steps Wayne Township Public Schools’ leaders took to implement and introduce the innovations
• How you can implement a robust support system for your entire staff with edWeb’s virtual professional learning resources

The Wayne team uses edWeb.net to create private communities for collaboration districtwide and also for special needs and interests. The team uses edWeb CE certificates and reporting to provide incentives for earning PD hours virtually on staff members’ own time and also for earning credit towards salary advancement. You get many ideas you can put into practice in your school or district. The edWeb team also provides information on the coaching and training services they can provide so you can set up your own district or school program on edWeb.

This program is part of the edWeb PD in Action series that highlights how education leaders are redesigning professional learning to support staff growth, culture, wellness, and retention, and improve student outcomes. About the Presenters

Donna Reichman has been a member of the Wayne Township Public Schools for 20 years serving in the roles of Assistant Superintendent, Curriculum Director, Principal, Staff Developer, and Gifted and Talented Teacher. Her combined 26 years of experience in public education includes work on curriculum reform, technology integration, and professional development. Donna has been the driving force behind many curriculum implementations, has opened a state-of-the-art early childhood center, and started an in-house professional development center where educational leaders from her district can showcase and share their expertise and talents. She worked with the New Jersey Department of Education to develop programs that allow for progressive in-district professional development and was a New Jersey Gifted Society Fellow. Donna graduated from Rutgers University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and economics. She also holds a master’s degree in elementary education from Kean University and a master’s degree in education, administration, and supervision from Caldwell University.

Tracy Leigh has taught elementary and middle school over the past 20 years while integrating technology into her classroom lessons. She transitioned into teaching technology to adult learners as an adjunct professor at Montclair State University, becoming an independent technology consultant for several NJ school districts, and now with her current role in Wayne Township Public Schools as a Teacher Coordinator of Educational Technology Integration where she has been for the last nine years. Tracy earned her M.A. in education and B.S. in elementary education and psychology from Seton Hall University. In her free time, she serves as PTA President at her daughters’ school and enjoys hanging out with her family, friends, two puppies, Delilah and Dwight, and cat, Daisy.

Katie Nieves Licwinko started her educational career as a middle school special education teacher, where she taught in the resource room, co-taught/inclusion classes, and reading intervention classes. Katie earned her doctorate in educational technology leadership from New Jersey City University. She is a Google Certified Innovator and Trainer. She founded the platform Assembling Inclusion, which provides courses, resources, and a podcast series centered around special education and inclusion to educators. Katie’s work and research have been featured in peer-reviewed journals and textbooks and on various educational websites. She has presented at national conferences, including ISTE, CEC, AMLE, and ITC, and various state and local conferences. She is also on the New Jersey Council of Teachers of English Executive Board. Currently, she is a Teacher Coordinator of Educational Technology for the Wayne Township Public School District in New Jersey. In her free time, Katie can usually be found going on different hikes.
