In this edWebinar, Stacie Rich, a district leader from Volusia County Schools in Florida, shares how her district is putting teacher calibration (a process that helps groups of educators evaluate student work consistently) and professional learning into action using digital rubrics, grading, and state-released exemplars. Viewers also learn from Kara Gann, a district calibration expert, about how to calibrate teacher expectations for student work by using your specific district or state’s exemplars and rubric. By the end of this session, you will know how to best help your teachers deliver effective and equitable feedback on student writing.

Watch this edWebinar to learn how to organize and plan for a successful districtwide calibration event by:

  • Exploring the resources needed to facilitate a calibration event
  • Identifying state-released or district-curated exemplars and rubrics
  • Using Writable’s free Team Grade feature to run a virtual or in-person calibration event
  • Creating follow-up discussions with teachers so that they can apply their learnings into daily practice

By the end of this session, you will have gained knowledge about:

  • The two models for calibrating grading: using a district-created common assessment or calibrating against state-released exemplars
  • How calibration helps deepen the understanding of student expectations
  • Best practices for reviewing and discussing insights immediately following a calibration session

This recorded edWebinar is of interest to K-12 teachers, school and district leaders, education technology leaders, instructional coaches, TOSAs, lead teachers, and those involved with curricula and assessment.
