Youth Entrepreneurs® (YE) is not your average business class. The YE educational model lifts the veil between textbook learning and real-world application, teaching students to see the impact of their decisions, seize opportunities and take ownership of their own lives. In this edWebinar, hear how two Detroit YE high school educators—Jason Filie and Renate Matthews—utilized the program’s free curriculum in their classrooms to engage their students through experiential learning—applying actual market scenarios by playing games and participating in activities. They share how their students even had the opportunity to create authentic pop-up businesses of their choosing through an event called Market Day, where the students got to keep the profits they earned.

Wondering how you can adopt the YE educational model in your own classroom? Join this live, interactive session to get started! Discover:

  • YE Academy’s free resources, including activity overviews, guides, customizable lessons and videos—all developed by a team of teachers just like you
  • How Jason and Renate applied these resources in their classrooms and forever changed the way they teach their students
  • How to integrate YE’s eight Foundational Values—essential principles such as responsibility, knowledge and freedom—to set your students up for life-long success

This recorded edWebinar is designed for middle and high school educators and leaders who want to learn how entrepreneurial programs can help build their students’ self-esteem with valuable real-world skills for school, work, and life.

Jason FillieJason Filie is the manager of stakeholder relations at Youth Entrepreneurs, and was a social studies teacher at Cornerstone Schools in Detroit for 18 years. He graduated from Michigan State University with a B.A. in economics. He is a proud father of three sons and coached basketball at the middle school and high school levels as well as baseball and basketball in local youth leagues.

Renate MatthewsRenate Matthews is a business education teacher at Cornerstone Health + Technology High School in Detroit, Michigan. Cornerstone was the pilot school for the Youth Entrepreneurs program in Michigan in 2016 and Renate was one of the two teachers selected to attend the training in Wichita, Kansas. Not only did Renate leave that training with the tools that she needed to teach the program to her students, she left with excitement and hope. She then combined that with her passion and has been able to transform the culture of her classroom by promoting value creation for others, and by intermingling the YE Foundational Values into every lesson that she teaches. Renate asserts that the YE program is extremely engaging, and comprehensive enough to be a stand alone entrepreneurship course in any and every high school.

Mik LoveMik Love fell in love with Youth Entrepreneurs’ experiential way to teach and learn. “I work at YE because we are the change. We empower students not only with knowledge, but also with skill sets and opportunities,” says Mik. As YE’s Compass Team Training Specialist, Mik utilizes his background as a college basketball coach to build relationships. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in sports management and Master of Education with an emphasis in organizational leadership from Wichita State University.
