This edWebinar is designed for K–12 and post-secondary school counselors, career coaches, educators, and student success specialists who support learners exploring future pathways. The goal of this session is to strengthen career literacy by equipping career development professionals with the knowledge, language, and frameworks needed to help students connect their interests and skills to meaningful careers within the maritime manufacturing ecosystem.

Viewers gain a clear understanding of maritime manufacturing as an “industry of industries,” encompassing design, skilled trades, technology, supply chain, and business careers nationwide. The presenters highlight the interconnected skills that come together to build and sustain ships and submarines critical to national defense, innovation, and economic resilience.

Learning objectives include understanding how to scaffold career coaching from early curiosity through post-secondary transition, applying developmentally appropriate coaching strategies at each educational stage, and using inclusive, purpose-driven language that affirms the value of all education and training pathways. Viewers also explore practical strategies for serving as connectors between students, education systems, and industry partners.

Viewers leave with actionable tools, shared language, and renewed confidence to guide students toward informed, empowering, and purpose-aligned career journeys. About the Presenters

Dr. Mike Briscoe is the Maritime Industrial Base Program Workforce Team’s University Partnerships Subject Matter Expert and the Educator-in-Residence at the American Society of Naval Engineers. He runs edMe Learning, an education content development company, and has worked across the K-12 and university landscape.

Eric Linn

Eric Linn Jr. grew up in the Philadelphia area and holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Maryland and a Master of Business Administration from Wake Forest University. He has over 24 years of experience in engineering, including roles in design and leadership of global teams across engineering and operations. His career has spanned organizations such as the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Honeywell, Xylem, and 3D Systems. Today, he serves as the Senior Director of Operations and Engineering at ATDM, or Accelerated Training in Defense Manufacturing, a skilled trades training facility currently supported by the U.S. Navy.

Ron Sizer

Ron Sizer is a Philadelphia native, machinist, educator, and the Director of Advanced Manufacturing at the Community College of Philadelphia. He began working with machining and welding as a child under the guidance of his father and grandfather, and went on to build a strong industry career, earning certifications at the National Center for Defense Manufacturing and Machining and working on Navy contracts, producing parts for submarines and aircraft carriers. Before joining CCP, Ron taught Precision Machine Tool Technology at Benjamin Franklin High School, the only program of its kind in the Philadelphia School District, where he helped students earn industry credentials and launch careers in advanced manufacturing. Ron’s work focuses on creating meaningful education-to-career pathways and increasing access for students from diverse backgrounds into high-skill, mission-critical careers, including those connected to the U.S. Navy and national defense workforce.
