The goal of this edWebinar is to spark interest in developing makerspaces in the preschool classroom. Authors Robin Marx-Mackerley, MS and Cathryn Peshlakai, M.Ed.:

  • Define what a makerspace is and how it is different from other makerspaces
  • Explain the various types of makerspaces for different settings
  • Present the benefits of a makerspace and briefly describe the phases of a maker
  • Describe what resources are available in their book, Making Space for Preschool Makerspaces

We hope by watching this edWebinar, viewers will be energized and motivated to create makerspaces in preschool classrooms. The authors seek to expand the maker community and build maker champions.

Robin Marx-MackerleyAbout the Presenters

Robin Marx-Mackerley, MS is an early childhood instructor for the University of Nevada, Reno Extension. She earned her B.A. at the University of Pittsburgh and her Master of Science in early childhood studies in management, administration, and leadership from Walden University, Minneapolis. Robin has been in the field of early childhood education for over 30 years, during which time she has held various teaching and director positions, owned a family childcare center, and served on the local affiliate for the Association for the Education of Young Children. Robin is passionate about supporting early childhood professionals and works towards educating and professionalizing the field of early childhood education. Robin is originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and has lived with her husband in Las Vegas, Nevada for 24 years. Together, they have two children.

 

Cathryn L. PeshlakaiCathryn L. Peshlakai, M.Ed. is an early childhood program coordinator for the University of Nevada, Reno Extension. She earned her B.A. and M.Ed. in early childhood education at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. In her 30 + years in the childcare field, she has worked as a teacher, center director of four childcare programs and held a regional position with oversight of 10 early childhood centers. She finds joy in developing online early childhood courses as well as presenting in-person training for early childhood providers.
