Play provides a meaningful and engaging context for young children to explore academic concepts and practice a variety of skills critical for school readiness. In this edWebinar, Dr. Brian Mowry, Manager of Curriculum and Instruction for Frog Street Press and Lead Author of Frog Street Preschool Math, looks at ways teachers can make play purposeful and intentional in their classrooms to maximize learning outcomes in all developmental domains including social emotional, language, physical, and cognitive. This recorded session will be of interest to early childhood educators, administrators, and directors.

About the Presenter

Dr. Brian Mowry serves as the manager of curriculum and instruction for Frog Street Press and is the lead author of Frog Street Preschool Math. In addition to his duties at Frog Street, Dr. Mowry has co-authored various scholarly articles in Young Children and Phi Delta Kappa, as well as an upcoming text called Rigorous DAP in the Early Years: From Theory to Practice from Red Leaf Press. He has also been a featured speaker at various national educational conferences, including NAEYC and NCTM. Before becoming an author and speaker, Dr. Mowry served 25 years in the Austin Independent School District as a bilingual preschool and kindergarten teacher, as well as a district level instructional specialist in mathematics and early childhood education. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin in curriculum and instruction. His awards include Teacher of the Year, the Austin Association for the Education of Young Children’s 2011 Teacher Educator of the Year, and Austin’s E3 Alliance 2015 Architect of Educational Change for his work in promoting kindergarten readiness in the Central Texas region.
