In the edweb.net Emerging Tech community’s October webinar, attendees learned how to mobilize their library program. Michelle Luhtala told attendees what services could improve teaching and learning, how mobile learning can expand your library’s reach, what apps facilitate information and communications technology instruction, as well as, what role apps can play with the library program in digital citizenship coaching.  Michelle discusses how to measure the achievements of a community and the success of transformations. Students are using mobile technology in different ways in the classroom, and a surprising amount seems to be spent learning and doing productive activities.  With the use of videos of her school library, Michelle shows attendees what can be gained from allowing mobile devices in the library and how students are already benefiting from using Google Drive to write narratives and apps to check their grades.

Emerging Tech is a professional learning community (PLC) where school librarians can explore all the ways to integrate technology and 21st century learning into school library programs.  The community hosts free monthly webinars and live chats. Online discussions provide an easy way to continue the conversation and share ideas and experiences with peers across the country, and around the world.  You’ll have an opportunity to collaborate with other librarians as you learn about and explore the many uses of technology in school libraries.
