Meet the Webinators

edWeb has presented over 1,200 edWebinars with more than 1,000 amazing “Webinators” who are educators who generously share their knowledge, practices, and tips with peers. Educators from all over the world benefit from this free, anytime/anywhere learning.

At the ISTE 2017 conference this year, edWeb.net held a poster session to “Meet the Webinators” where three “star” Webinators—Michelle Luhtala, Shannon Holden, and Rachel Langenhorst—met with some of their edWeb fans and continued to spread the word about the free world of edWeb PD!

edWeb’s very first edWebinar was presented by Michelle Luhtala in July 2010. This month, August 2017, Michelle will present her 80th edWebinar as part of the Emerging Technology for School Libraries community on edWeb. Michelle is the library department chair at New Canaan High School in Connecticut, which won AASL’s National School Library Program of the year in 2010. Michelle was named a Library Journal Mover & Shaker in 2015, and won the New York Times I Love My School Librarian award in 2012.

Michelle recently commented about why she loves edWebinars! “They say that the best way to learn something is to teach it, which is why I love webinars. I do not always have the answers to everything or know the best way to do things, so I usually invite guest speakers. I go and talk to other people, delve into what they are doing, and bring their ideas back to our school. The webinars give me a great incentive to learn how to do things well and how to teach things well. I’m constantly looking for the best practices out there, and doing webinars keeps me connected to a really large teaching community with a great inventory of information.”

Shannon Holden, a veteran teacher and currently an assistant principal at Republic Middle School, MO, has presented over 100 edWebinars in two of edWeb’s popular communities, Tech Tools for the Classroom and New Teacher Help. He recently presented an edWebinar on How Collaboration Helps School Leaders Succeed.

Rachel Langenhorst is a tech integrationist at the Rock Valley Community School District in Iowa. She has presented on a number of topics on edWeb and uses edWeb for her personalized district PD program. edWeb recently published a case study of Rachel’s highly successful personalized PD program.

Lisa Schmucki, the founder of edWeb, commented, “I am continually amazed and thankful that we’ve been able to use the technology that is available today to make this kind of collaboration possible. edWeb runs on technology, but is powered by people.”

edWeb.net thanks all of the Webinators for their generosity in sharing their learning. All of edWeb’s webinars are free. You can sign up for a live edWebinar on the edWeb calendar or watch more than 1,200 recordings on demand.
