About the Presenter
Originally from Chicago, Illinois, Dr. Deborah L. Wortham is an esteemed educator, author, and lecturer. She made history as the first locally elected Superintendent of the Roosevelt Union Free School District in 11 years, leading her district from “State Takeover” to “Good Standing.” As a former superintendent of several additional districts across the United States, Dr. Wortham has dedicated her career to advocating for educational equity and excellence. Dr. Wortham holds a doctorate in educational leadership from Nova Southeastern University as well as a master’s degree in reading and a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. She is involved in many organizations, including Alpha Kappa Alpha, The Links, and the National Coalition of 100 Black Women. Dr. Wortham’s recent achievements include being named among the 2020 Top 100 Most Influential Educators in New York State and receiving the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women’s Clubs’ Sojourner Truth Award.
