SUMMARY:Math Processes for All Young Learners: Setting the Stage for Long-Term Success in Numbers and Operations – Part 1
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Sara Delano Moore\, Ph.D.\, Director of Professional Learning\, ORIGO Education \nSponsored by ORIGO Education \nWatch the Recording\nClosed captioning will be added to the recording within 2 weeks of the live presentation.\nGet a CE Certificate for this edWebinar Learn more \nWe often think of mathematics skills as beginning with counting. While this is one of the early skills we assess\, there are other mathematical reasoning processes that are foundational to school mathematics. Research tells us that early mathematics skills are a better predictor of adult socioeconomic status (SES) than are childhood SES or reading achievement. Developing these foundational beginning processes is critical to establishing this firm foundation. In addition\, students who struggle may have gaps in these beginning processes which impact many domains of mathematics. Supporting these learners to shore up these foundations is equally essential. \nIn part one of this two-part series\, Dr. Sara Delano Moore shares an overview of the five beginning processes as well as a deeper look at how they impact student understanding of numbers and operations. How does understanding attributes support developing understanding of numbers? What are the roles of comparing and ordering in this progression? We share activities for young learners to establish the foundation as well as resources that could support intervention in these areas for school-age learners. Watch Sara to learn more about these essential beginning processes for mathematics and how they can support your students. \nThis recorded edWebinar will be of interest to teachers\, school leaders\, and math leaders and coaches of the preK through elementary levels.  \nMath Processes for All Young Learners: Setting the Stage for Long-Term Success in Geometry and Measurement – Part 2 \n \nAbout the Presenter \nSara Delano Moore\, Ph.D. serves as Director of Professional Learning and Chair of the Mathematics Advisory Board at ORIGO Education. A fourth-generation educator\, Sara’s work emphasizes the power of deep understanding and multiple representations for learning mathematics. Her interests include building mathematical comprehension and operation sense\, incorporating high-quality literature into mathematics instruction\, and connecting mathematics with engineering design and computational thinking. Sara has served as a classroom teacher of mathematics and science\, a mathematics teacher educator at the University of Kentucky\, Director of the Kentucky Center for Middle School Academic Achievement\, and Director of Mathematics & Science at ETA Hand2Mind. She has authored numerous articles in professional journals and is a co-author of the Mathematize It! series of books. She is also a member of the Visible Learning for Mathematics writing team\, including two volumes of the Teaching Mathematics in the Visible Learning Classroom series. \n \nClosed captioning will be added to the recording within 2 weeks of the live presentation. \nJoin the Mathematics for Young Learners community to network with educators\, participate in online discussions\, receive invitations to upcoming edWebinars\, and view recordings of previous programs to earn CE certificates. \n\nORIGO Education is dedicated to making learning meaningful\, enjoyable and accessible for all students with Pre-K to Grade 6 print and digital instructional materials\, as well as professional learning for mathematics.

SUMMARY:Why Creativity Matters – Can Creativity Change Outcomes in My Classroom?
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Sara Smith\, Creative Director\, FableVision Learning; and Stephanie Corrente\, Senior Learning Leader\, Eduscape \nSponsored by FableVision Learning and Eduscape \nWatch the Recording\nClosed captioning will be added to the recording within 2 weeks of the live presentation.\nGet a CE Certificate for this edWebinar Learn more \nCreativity is not art. It is a mindset that impacts both social and emotional well-being and problem-solving for teachers. Creativity can be developed; it is not inherited. Thus\, a teacher with a creative mindset approaches challenges of the school structure differently and approaches challenges displayed by students differently. A teacher with a creative mindset develops a teaching style that imbues this mindset in their students and provides students with creative tools. Thus\, the creative teacher creates a positive feedback loop and can impact outcomes. \nIn this recorded edWebinar\, viewers will: \n\nReview what creativity is and what it looks like in the classroom\nExplore a framework to use to understand the principles\nDiscover the interplay of creativity to SEL and STEM\nLearn about tools that are accessible to classroom teachers to develop creativity skills\n\nThis recorded edWebinar will be of interest to preK-12 teachers\, school and district leaders\, librarians\, STEM teachers and coaches\, and curriculum directors. \n \nAbout the Presenters \nSara Smith is Creative Education Development Manager for FableVision Learning. You will see the stars and constellations from each location\, and we will share sky stories and fun facts for each location. We will also provide recommendations on resources for learning more. \nThis recorded edWebinar is particularly applicable to kindergarten through sixth-grade teachers but will be of interest to anyone teaching history or social sciences.  \n \nAbout the Presenters \nKarrie Berglund is a co-founder of Digitalis. SUMMARY:Literacy: A Social Justice Issue
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Hilderbrand Pelzer III\, Educator and Author; Carissa Berliner\, Teacher and Universal Literacy Reading Coach\, New York City Department of Education; and Resha Conroy\, Founder\, Dyslexia Alliance for Black Children\nModerated by Debbie Meyer\, A’Lelia Bundles Community Scholar \nSponsored by Learning Ally \nWatch the Recording\nClosed captioning will be added to the recording within 2 weeks of the live presentation.\nGet a CE Certificate for this edWebinar Learn more \nThe U.S. Department of Justice states\, “The link between academic failure and delinquency\, violence\, and crime is welded in reading failure.” The national reading crisis is much larger than poor grades and missing assignments. The effects it has on students last a lifetime. When reading deficits are identified early\, they can be remediated with instruction rather than accommodations. Too often\, however\, struggling readers are unidentified and left behind\, and the ramifications are manifold. \nThis recorded presentation features a principal\, teacher\, and parent who will share their journeys and how they advocate leaving no student behind due to inadequate instruction. This recorded edWebinar will be of interest to preK-12 teachers\, librarians\, and school and district leaders. \n \nAbout the Presenters \nHilderbrand Pelzer III is an award-winning educator with three decades of wide-ranging experience\, having served as an assistant regional superintendent\, a principal\, an assistant principal\, and a teacher. As the author of Unlocking Potential: Organizing a School Inside a Prison\, Hilderbrand has earned a national reputation for his achievements in expanding opportunities in highly challenging schools and educational environments. Among his many notable accomplishments is the creation of an evidence-based school model for incarcerated youth in Philadelphia’s correctional facilities. \nHilderbrand is also a speaker. His presentations highlight the intersection of education and incarceration. His TEDx Talk\, “What Incarcerated Youth Can Teach Teachers\,” illuminates issues related to inadequate reading instruction\, educational inequities\, and illiteracy in the juvenile justice system. Hilderbrand’s education perspective is defined by incarcerated youths’ experience with reading and the belief that their insights can strengthen educators’ understanding of when and how to raise the academic bar while teaching. \n \nCarissa Berliner has been an educator in the New York City Department of Education (NYCDOE) for 16 years. She began her career as a New York City Teaching Fellow in 2004 and went on to teach in elementary school for 14 years in Queens\, NY. Through ULit\, she became highly trained in early childhood literacy pedagogy\, content\, and assessment. As a reading coach and mom of a first grader\, Carissa has begun to advocate for changes to reading instruction in grades K-2. Due to the pandemic\, this school year she is teaching kindergarten and first grade as a special education teacher.
