SUMMARY:School Safety in a Post-Pandemic America: The Critical Need for an All-Hazards Approach
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Dr. Amy Klinger\, Director of Programs\, The Educator’s School Safety Network; and Amanda Klinger\, Esq.\, Director of Operations\, The Educator’s School Safety Network \nHosted by The Educator’s School Safety Network\nSponsored by Motorola Solutions \nWatch the Recording\nClosed captioning will be added to the recording within 2 weeks of the live presentation. Get a CE Certificate for this edWebinar Learn more. \nThere are important lessons to be learned about school safety in a post-pandemic America—and not all of them have to do with COVID-19. Since March of 2020\, educators have been in survival mode with little attention\, time\, or resources allocated to the ongoing work of school safety and violence prevention. The brutal reality is that the events and circumstances of the recent past have not erased\, but exacerbated the myriad of safety concerns that existed before the pandemic. \nIt is critical that schools respond to the current public health concerns\, AND prevent a future school safety crisis by addressing the troubling question: What safety practices have we ignored while we were busy dealing with COVID? We must now transition from “survival” mode into “the next thing”—which must include an all-hazards approach to violence prevention and safety. \nIn this recorded edWebinar\, explore the critical need for an all-hazards approach to school safety that empowers educators to plan for\, prevent\, and respond to a wide array of natural and man-made hazards. Vital\, but often-overlooked crisis response principles\, such as threat assessment\, communication plans\, parent reunification\, violence-prevention initiatives\, and improving school culture will be explored in a pragmatic\, research-based fashion. \nCome prepared to self-assess your district’s level of preparedness for preventing and responding to events and generate appropriate action steps to further the development of an all-hazards approach to safety. This recorded edWebinar will be of interest to K-12 teachers\, school and district leaders\, support staff\, and board members. \n \nAbout the Presenters \nDr. Amy Klinger is the founder and director of programs for The Educator’s School Safety Network\, a national non-profit. Her past experience includes 28 years of service as a teacher\, central office administrator\, and building principal. Dr. Klinger is the author of Keeping Students Safe Every Day as well as numerous articles in professional journals and mass media. Get a CE Certificate for this edWebinar Learn more. \nAfter more than a year of disrupted learning\, research shows that larger numbers of students will not meet traditional grade-level benchmarks when they return to learning this fall. This will make it more difficult to determine when students require special education services to get back on track versus when Tier 1 instruction or Tier 2 supports need to be intensified. \nBut how do you develop a process to navigate this “new normal” when it remains uncharted ground? In this recorded edWebinar\, Drs. Sarah Brown and Wendy Stuttgen provide guidance on how to ensure students receive the instruction and interventions they need while reducing unnecessary special education referrals and potential over-identification. The practices used by the St. Croix River Education District serve as a real-world example. Tune in to learn: \n\nHow and when to conduct universal screening to identify class- or school-wide academic needs\nHow to interpret screening data to guide Tier I instruction and identify students in need of Tiers 2 and 3 interventions\nThe role of progress monitoring in determining the effectiveness of Tier 2 interventions and when they should be intensified\nConsiderations related to suspecting disabilities for low-achieving students this fall\n\nScreening and progress monitoring will be more important than ever this coming school year as you work to close learning gaps. This recorded edWebinar provides valuable steps and insights to successfully navigate special education referrals this school year. \nThis recorded edWebinar will be of interest to K-12 teachers\, school and district leaders\, school counselors\, and school psychologists.  \n \nAbout the Presenters \nDr. Sarah Brown is the executive director of professional learning at Illuminate Education. SUMMARY:10 Motivational Messages Every Educator and Administrator Needs to Know to Thrive
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Terrie Noland\, Ph.D.\, CALP\, Vice President\, Educator Initiatives\, Learning Ally \nSponsored by Learning Ally \nWatch the Recording\nClosed captioning will be added to the recording within 2 weeks of the live presentation. Get a CE Certificate for this edWebinar Learn more \nIt’s human nature to want the best. We want to know the best restaurant\, be referred to the best doctor\, our children to have the best teacher\, and the school to be led by the best principal and superintendent. However\, for those of us who are educators and administrators\, we know that some days we don’t feel our best\, and we certainly don’t perform at our best. Emotions of inadequacy and feeling like an imposter might creep into our minds when the heaviness of education starts to weigh down. \nThis recorded edWebinar aims to flip your mindset and provide the words you need to hear to keep you motivated as an educator and administrator. Our not-so-good days can be turned into our best days. Our classrooms and schools can be turned into havens of learning where failure happens\, where stories are told\, where belief takes shape\, and where we get down to business instead of “busy-ness.” So\, if you need a beginning-of-the-school-year pep talk\, here it is! \nThis recorded edWebinar will be of interest to K-12 teachers\, librarians\, and school and district leaders.  \n \nAbout the Presenter \nListen. Learn. Teach. It’s that simple. Terrie Noland uses this philosophy as an innovator and a motivator\, and it’s evident as she leads\, coaches and mentors thousands of K-12 educators about the science of reading each year. She has a unique perspective on the need to unify all stakeholders around a vision for education to smash the reading divide for the millions of struggling readers. Her daily mission is to add value to educators to help influence transformational changes in school districts across the country by addressing the needs of marginalized students. Terrie seeks to share her expertise and passion to encourage and to illuminate a path towards success and measurable outcomes. \nIf you looked at Terrie’s resume\, you would be confused. Her undergraduate and graduate degree work placed her in the field of criminal justice. However\, it was through continuous listening and learning that led her on a journey in education starting out in preschool teaching and administration\, then becoming a Certified Academic Language Practitioner (CALP) and earning a Ph.D. in literacy and educational leadership from St. John’s University. Terrie is also a John Maxwell certified speaker and coach. \nAs Vice President of Educator Initiatives at Learning Ally\, Terrie works to ignite enthusiasm and excitement by building champion educators and administrators on creating cultures of literacy and learning. \n \nClosed captioning will be added to the recording within 2 weeks of the live presentation. \nJoin the Empowering Struggling Readers community to network with educators\, participate in online discussions\, receive invitations to upcoming edWebinars\, and view recordings of previous programs to earn CE certificates. \n\nLearning Ally is a leading education solutions organization committed to transforming the lives of struggling learners.
