SUMMARY:How Games Can Empower Deep\, Relevant Science Problem Solving
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Lindsey Tropf\, M.Ed.\, Founder and CEO\, Immersed Games \nSponsored by Tyto Online \nWatch the Recording\nLearn more about viewing the live presentation and the recording\, earning your CE certificate\, and using our new accessibility features. \nAs educators\, we all aim to empower students in deep\, relevant scientific problem solving. Meeting these goals helps develop engaged\, scientifically literate citizens\, but also aligns well with three-dimensional learning in the new Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) framework. Video games can support these approaches by serving as the anchoring phenomena that students can directly engage with—and games have the power to set up meaningful types of problems that your students can use their problem solving with. \nIn this edWebinar\, we dive into some model activity examples of how games can be used for this pedagogical approach. The presenter uses Tyto Online\, a cost-effective solution that has been developed with support from National Science Foundation and Department of Education grants\, for our hands-on application. This includes seeing a model video game activity for middle school science\, analyzing how it successfully supported these goals\, and identifying how it could be expanded on with classroom instruction to strengthen learning. You will be provided resources to find games and make plans for how you can use games to support these practices in your own classroom. \nThis recorded edWebinar is of interest to K-12 teachers\, school and district leaders\, and education technology leaders. \n \nAbout the Presenter \nLindsey Tropf\, M.Ed. is the founder and CEO of Immersed Games. Before founding Immersed Games\, she was a doctoral candidate at the University of Florida in school psychology\, with a specialization in program evaluation and a minor in research & evaluation methodology\, and expertise in data-based decision making. With Immersed Games\, she’s led the company from founding to development of two titles\, growth of their game-based learning curriculum\, through the Intel Education Accelerator\, obtaining grants from the National Science Foundation and Department of Education\, and implementing their product into schools and districts. \n \nLearn more about viewing the live presentation and the recording\, earning your CE certificate\, and using our new accessibility features. \nJoin the Game-Based Learning community to network with educators\, participate in online discussions\, receive invitations to upcoming edWebinars\, and view recordings of previous programs to earn CE certificates. \n\nOur mission is to empower learners to engage in deeper learning\, solving authentic problems as they learn science. Using our game\, Tyto Online\, helps teachers deliver hands-on science learning that develops scientific problem solving and is designed for the Next Generation Science Standards.
