Ad Fontes is Latin for “to the source\,” because at the heart of what Ad Fontes Media does is look at the source—analyze the very content itself—to rate it. We have created a system of news content ratings that has beneficial applications for all stakeholders in a healthy news media landscape\, including consumers\, educators\, publishers\, researchers\, advertisers\, and social media platforms. \n\n \nEdCuration’s mission is to get better resources into classrooms faster to increase student success. To this end\, we run the Certified EdTrustees program\, bringing together aspiring educational leaders to review and pilot instructional resources and provide feedback to the developers regarding how to improve those learning solutions. EdTrustees who love the piloted solutions advocate for their adoption by their school or district.

SUMMARY:How the Power of Family Engagement Changes the Trajectories of Students and Teachers
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Andy Danilchick\, Co-Founder and Director\, The Project for Mental Health and Optimal Development\, University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education; Sylvia Hall\, Co-Founder\, GAB-on!; and Jarrid Hall\, Co-Founder\, GAB-on! \nSponsored by GAB-on! \nWatch the Recording\nLearn more about viewing the live presentation and the recording\, earning your CE certificate\, and using our new accessibility features. \nThe past two years have been incredibly challenging in the world of education. One of the silver linings is that the impact of parent engagement in a child’s school day has risen in visibility. Decades of research tell us this is key to a child’s academic achievement and agency\, and in igniting aspirations. \nDeveloping a student’s agency builds critical thinking\, gives them a voice to ask for help when navigating hurdles\, and allows them to share their struggles and joys to look forward and better understand their possibilities. Harnessing family engagement through student agency opens a window for parents to see their child’s struggles and joys\, guide and support their child’s strengths\, and feel connected as a family. \nIn this edWebinar\, Andy Danilchick\, Co-founder and Director of The Project for Mental Health and Optimal Development at the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education\, shares the impact of harnessing parent engagement and empowering student voice as pathways to academic achievement\, social-emotional development\, student advocacy\, and overall mental health for students\, and the impact that has in the classroom. Key takeaways include: \n\nConsistent parent/family engagement plays a critical role in students’ academic\, social\, and emotional learning\nStudent voice has the power to identify a child’s struggles\, joys\, and possibilities and change the trajectory of their future\nStudent agency\, when connected with parent engagement outside of the classroom\, has results that lead to higher education\, career opportunities\, and life preparedness\n\nThis recorded edWebinar is of interest to K-12 teachers\, school and district leaders\, librarians\, education technology leaders\, and school counselors. \n \nAbout the Presenters \nAndy Danilchick is the director of Penn GSE’s Project for Mental Health and Optimal Development. He leads the Public Schools Consortium for Mental Health and Optimal Development and the Possibility Mentoring Project. Andy is also a leadership consultant\, researcher\, and teacher educator. He is currently a doctoral candidate in Penn GSE’s Teaching\, Learning\, and Teacher Education Program. Andy holds a master’s in educational leadership from the University of Pennsylvania and a B.A. from Swarthmore College. Andy’s research interests include action research\, possibility development\, 360 assessment\, and teacher development. \n \nSylvia Hall is the proud mom of two teenagers and co-founder of GAB-on! With a 15-plus-year career in strategic and relationship marketing\, she pivoted her energy and dedication to navigating the world of special education in both private and public schools on behalf of her son who learns differently. Sylvia holds a certificate from the Harvard E.D.U. Family Engagement in Education program and has been recognized by Women’sNet\, Northeast Arc\, and the 2022 SIIA CODiE Awards for GAB-on! She is living the adolescent parenting journey in the moment and tends to spontaneously bring rescue pups home. \n \nJarrid Hall is the proud dad of two teens\, an idea generator\, and builder of GAB-on! His resume includes years of business development and sales at Fortune 500 companies and startups domestically and in Europe. He started his first business at age 12\, went on to build the U.S. business for a Dutch start-up\, and spent time in London to open a new technology market. He built GAB-on! to connect with his kids and to show them how to be unafraid to try to start something from scratch and to be involved in an effort for the impact it can have. \n \nLearn more about viewing the live presentation and the recording\, earning your CE certificate\, and using our new accessibility features. \nJoin the Student Voice community to network with educators\, participate in online discussions\, receive invitations to upcoming edWebinars\, and view recordings of previous programs to earn CE certificates. \n\n \nGAB-on! gets every family talking\, about school\, every day. Family engagement in a child’s education improves all the “A’s”: attendance\, academic achievement\, agency\, and aspirations. GAB-on! gets parents engaged in their child’s learning consistently and actively at home\, so students are engaged every day at school. \nStudent-managed in school and student-led at home\, we overcome barriers that families may face engaging in their child’s education and meet families where they are in the engagement journey through consistent\, student-led conversations at home about their child’s day at school. We turn the concept of family engagement into action for all families.

SUMMARY:Text\, Twitter\, Email\, Call: Parents’ Preferences for Communication and Engagement
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Dr. Julie A. Evans\, CEO\, Project Tomorrow \nSponsored by Finalsite (new home of Blackboard K-12) \nWatch the Recording\nLearn more about viewing the live presentation and the recording\, earning your CE certificate\, and using our new accessibility features. \nCommunication with parents is more important than ever\, but what really works with today’s parents? During the 2021-22 school year\, Project Tomorrow polled nearly 5\,000 parents of school-aged children from across the country about their personal preferences for teacher\, school\, and district communication through the Speak Up Research Project. The resulting data was analyzed to reveal both common aspirations as well as important differences in those preferences. \nA key factor in the analysis was understanding how a parent’s age or generation influenced their preferences for different communication modalities or digital engagement tools. The reality is that we have four generations of parents with children or grandchildren in our nation’s schools. Texting may work with a millennial parent who has a kindergarten student but that may not be the best strategy for a baby boomer grandparent who is the guardian of a high school student. \nIn this edWebinar\, we share the findings from this nationwide research study and discuss the importance of personalizing school-to-home messaging to meet the needs and expectations of an increasingly diverse parent community. Viewers gain access to a new e-book with the study findings and additional resources to support more effective communication and engagement with their parent communities. \nThis recorded edWebinar is of interest to K-12 teachers\, school and district leaders\, education technology leaders\, and communications and PR officers and leaders. \n \nAbout the Presenter \nDr. Julie A. Evans is the chief executive officer of Project Tomorrow and the founder of the heralded Speak Up Research Project\, which annually collects and reports on the authentic views of 400\,000 K-12 students\, parents\, and educators on key education issues. Dr. Evans serves as the chief researcher on the Speak Up Project and leads national research efforts on the impact of emerging learning models and interventions in both K-12 and higher education. Her work includes helping education leaders embrace change and innovation in education\, and to recognize that the voices and views of their stakeholders\, most notably students\, are valuable leadership assets. \nPrior to joining Project Tomorrow in 1999\, Dr. Evans enjoyed a successful career in management within the technology industry including with two education technology startups. As a national thought leader and influencer\, she brings to discussions about the future of education a unique perspective because of her experiences working in both the for-profit and nonprofit sectors as well as within education. Dr. Evans is a graduate of Brown University and earned her doctorate in educational leadership from the University of California San Diego and California State University San Marcos. She is a frequent facilitator\, speaker\, and writer on new learning models within education\, most notably around digital learning. Among her many accolades and awards\, Dr. Evans was named in April 2020 the winner of EdTech Digest’s National Leader award. Dr. Evans is the author of the soon-to-be-published book\, Free Agent Learning: Leveraging Students’ Self-Directed Learning to Transform K-12 Education. \n \nLearn more about viewing the live presentation and the recording\, earning your CE certificate\, and using our new accessibility features. \nJoin the Family Engagement & Community Outreach in K-12 community to network with educators\, participate in online discussions\, receive invitations to upcoming edWebinars\, and view recordings of previous programs to earn CE certificates. \n\n \nBlackboard is the leader in K-12 community engagement solutions. SUMMARY:Demystifying Dyslexia: The History\, Research\, and Best Practices for Supporting All Students
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Rachel Brown\, Ph.D.\, Senior Research Associate\, Illuminate Education\, Inc.; and John Bielinski\, Ph.D.\, Senior Director of Research and Development\, Illuminate Education\, Inc. \nSponsored by Illuminate Education \nWatch the Recording\nLearn more about viewing the live presentation and the recording\, earning your CE certificate\, and using our new accessibility features. \nThe term dyslexia dates to the early 20th century when the phrase “word blindness” was introduced as a way to describe a particular type of reading challenge. Over a century later\, many educators still struggle to understand not only what dyslexia is and how it can be identified\, but also how to provide effective supports for students with reading difficulties\, including dyslexia. \nIn recent years\, most U.S. states have adopted measures related to dyslexia screening so that early identification of—and intervention for—dyslexia can occur. Importantly\, recent dyslexia legislation requires all educators\, not just special education teachers\, to understand the causes and treatments for dyslexia in order to provide a comprehensive approach to support reading success for all students. During this edWebinar\, Drs. Rachel Brown and John Bielinski discuss: \n\nThe complicated history of the term “dyslexia” and its appropriate role in schools\nMyths and fears about dyslexia and how to address them with facts\nCurrent research around effective screening and what we know to be true about teaching students with dyslexia and other reading difficulties\nBest practices for screening and progress monitoring that will work within your MTSS\n\nThis recorded edWebinar is of interest to K-12 teachers\, school and district leaders\, and school counselors and psychologists. \n \nAbout the Presenters \nDr. Rachel Brown began her career as a middle school social studies teacher. She quickly learned that many of her students could not read well enough to understand assigned texts. This led Dr. Brown to earn certification as a special educator. Having learned that special education was not the answer to all students’ learning challenges\, she earned her Ph.D. in school psychology and special education at the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 2000. She was a faculty member in educational and school psychology at the University of Southern Maine for 16 years and then joined FastBridge Learning where she currently serves as a senior research associate. Dr. Brown now teaches in the Special Education Department at the University of Southern Maine. Her research focuses on effective reading instruction and assessment within a Multi-Tiered System of Support. \n \nDr. John Bielinski is a psychometrician by training and has led development of educational tests and educational research in the industry for 20 years. Dr. Bielinski began his career in education policy at the National Center on Educational Outcomes and joined FastBridge in 2018. His expertise is in CBM and modeling growth. \n \nLearn more about viewing the live presentation and the recording\, earning your CE certificate\, and using our new accessibility features. \nJoin the Teaching Reading and Writing community to network with educators\, participate in online discussions\, receive invitations to upcoming edWebinars\, and view recordings of previous programs to earn CE certificates. \n\n \nIlluminate Education partners with K-12 educators to equip them with data to serve the whole child and reach new levels of student performance. SUMMARY:Cybersecurity in Today’s Learning Environments: What School Leaders Must Know and Do
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Dr. Doug Brubaker\, Superintendent\, Texarkana Independent School District (TX); Lorrie Owens\, Chief Technology Officer\, Integrated Technology Services\, San Mateo County Office of Education (CA); and Glenn Robbins\, Superintendent\, Brigantine Public Schools (NJ)\nModerated by Ann McMullan\, Project Director\, CoSN (Consortium for School Networking) EmpowerED Superintendents Initiative \nThis edLeader Panel series is presented by CoSN and AASA.\nSponsored by ClassLink \nWatch the Recording Listen to the PodcastRead the Article \nLearn more about viewing the live presentation and the recording\, earning your CE certificate\, and using our new accessibility features. This program may qualify for CoSN CETL® Recertification. \nAs school districts continue to be targeted and severely impacted by cyberattacks\, it is incumbent upon school leaders to know how to prevent such attacks on their networks and how to respond to cyberattacks should they occur. Superintendents\, working in collaboration with their technology leaders\, must know how to create and lead the processes required to protect their districts’ networks from cyberattacks. They must also be able to communicate the importance of school district cybersecurity both internally\, within all areas of their school systems\, and externally with parents\, vendors\, and the broader school community. \nIn this edLeader Panel\, two school district superintendents and the chief technology officer of a county office of education share the strategies they use to analyze a network’s cybersecurity status as well as how to build and sustain school networks that are created to maximize security. They also explain the processes they have established to respond to a network attack if such an event occurs. \nThis recorded edLeader Panel is of particular value to superintendents\, K-12 school and district leaders\, and aspiring school leaders. \nView all of the recent EmpowerED Superintendent edLeader Panels. \n  \nAbout the Presenters \nDr. Doug Brubaker joined Texarkana Independent School District as Superintendent in January 2021.
