SUMMARY:Shifting Reading Instruction in a Realistic and Manageable Way: The Gentle Shift
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Elise Lovejoy\, CEO and Founding Teacher\, Express Readers\nModerated by Erica Vuolle\, Educator Engagement Coordinator\, EdCuration \nSponsored by Express Readers\nHosted by EdCuration \nWatch the Recording\nLearn more about viewing the live presentation and the recording\, earning your CE certificate\, and using our new accessibility features. \nShifting practices to meet the research in reading can feel overwhelming\, especially with the lack of funding\, obstacles in implementation\, and constant changes that teachers face daily. Educators and administrators need to find ways to make the change more manageable\, even within their existing environments with only the available resources. \nDuring this edWebinar\, educators receive a quick summary of the current movement in education towards structured literacy. They are then introduced to practical approaches for shifting mindset and instruction\, in areas such as reading groups/centers\, planning methods\, daily routines\, and educational materials—all without needing to overspend or overwhelm. \nThe gentle shift is a mindset and a path for all educators who might be struggling with where to begin. Essentially\, the transformation begins with educators\, not with programs or packaged materials. These realistic approaches give educators the tools to start shifting practices effectively and to construct a strong foundation to achieve the desired results for their students. \nThis recorded edWebinar helps TK-3 educators initiate a successful adoption of evidence-based reading practices. \n \nAbout the Presenter \nElise Lovejoy is the founder and CEO of Express Readers\, a TK-2nd-grade foundational skills and reading program. Express Readers’ mission is to provide the highest quality of resources and the fullest extent of teacher support\, all with the outcome of higher literacy rates and more engaged readers—anchored in the belief that “every child deserves to learn to read.” Elise holds a BA and an MA in elementary education with 15+ years of experience in the classroom\, grades K-2nd grade. During her teaching\, Elise became frustrated at the lack of quality decodable books and resources created by educators who understood realistic applications in classrooms. She threw herself into research and studies to author a large collection of decodable books\, design a full foundational skills curriculum\, and form a teacher-run company\, which now supports hundreds of schools across the U.S. and Canada. \n \nAbout the Moderator \nErica Vuolle is the educator engagement coordinator at EdCuration. She is a committed educator with ten years’ experience inspiring elementary and middle school students\, transforming classroom cultures\, and implementing effective programs. Originally from the east coast\, she started her career in Boston and has been working in Denver for the past nine years. She is a certified yoga teacher and loves to share her passion for movement and wellness with youth in the Denver area. She enjoys geeking out on literature\, hiking\, camping\, discovering live music\, and collecting vinyl. \n \nLearn more about viewing the live presentation and the recording\, earning your CE certificate\, and using our new accessibility features. \nJoin the Teaching Reading and Writing community to network with educators\, participate in online discussions\, receive invitations to upcoming edWebinars\, and view recordings of previous programs to earn CE certificates. \n\nBuilt and run by teachers\, Express Readers delivers a TK-2nd grade foundational skills program and professional development to ensure each and every student learns to read. Express Readers has been successfully supporting schools\, teachers\, and students across the United States since 2014. \n\n \nEdCuration’s mission is to get better resources into classrooms faster to increase student success. To this end\, we run the Certified EdTrustees program\, bringing together aspiring educational leaders to review and pilot instructional resources and provide feedback to the developers regarding how to improve those learning solutions. EdTrustees who love the piloted solutions advocate for their adoption by their school or district.

SUMMARY:Improving Executive Function Skills Through Task Planning and Time Management
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Renaud Boisjoly\, Chief Product Officer\, Studyo \nSponsored by Studyo \nWatch the Recording\nLearn more about viewing the live presentation and the recording\, earning your CE certificate\, and using our new accessibility features. \nWe often focus on students with special challenges when teaching organization skills and time management\, but according to the Universal Design for Learning principle\, all students can benefit from strategies we typically use with these unique students. This edWebinar focuses on how learning to plan helps students build a metacognitive view of their workload\, and students with strong metacognitive skills are positioned to learn more and perform better (e.g.\, Wang et al.\, 1990). \nDuring the edWebinar\, we explore specific planning skills and how they can help students be more aware of their workload and how they can use this knowledge to improve their time-management skills. All this ties into executive function skills such as organization\, planning\, shifting\, and initiating\, to name a few. At the end of the session\, viewers should have a clear set of strategies they can use in class to help students improve their metacognitive skills and foster improved executive function skills. \nThis recorded edWebinar is of interest to middle and high school teachers\, librarians\, school and district leaders\, and education technology leaders.  \n \nAbout the Presenter \nRenaud Boisjoly is the chief product officer of Studyo. After working with students and teachers in classrooms\, schools\, and districts for close to 25 years\, focusing on driving technology adoption through pedagogical objectives\, the new digital era raised the question of student agency and responsibility. Basing himself on action research on brain development and executive function skills\, he built the first version of the Studyo planner which empowered students with tools to plan and break down their work. \n \nLearn more about viewing the live presentation and the recording\, earning your CE certificate\, and using our new accessibility features. \nJoin the The Brain and Learning community to network with educators\, participate in online discussions\, and receive invitations to upcoming edWebinars. \n\n \nStudyo helps students\, teachers and parents work together to improve executive function skills.

SUMMARY:How the Power of Family Engagement Changes the Trajectories of Students and Teachers
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Andy Danilchick\, Co-Founder and Director\, The Project for Mental Health and Optimal Development\, University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education; Sylvia Hall\, Co-Founder\, GAB-on!; and Jarrid Hall\, Co-Founder\, GAB-on! \nSponsored by GAB-on! \nWatch the Recording\nLearn more about viewing the live presentation and the recording\, earning your CE certificate\, and using our new accessibility features. \nThe past two years have been incredibly challenging in the world of education. One of the silver linings is that the impact of parent engagement in a child’s school day has risen in visibility. Decades of research tell us this is key to a child’s academic achievement and agency\, and in igniting aspirations. \nDeveloping a student’s agency builds critical thinking\, gives them a voice to ask for help when navigating hurdles\, and allows them to share their struggles and joys to look forward and better understand their possibilities. Harnessing family engagement through student agency opens a window for parents to see their child’s struggles and joys\, guide and support their child’s strengths\, and feel connected as a family. \nIn this edWebinar\, Andy Danilchick\, Co-founder and Director of The Project for Mental Health and Optimal Development at the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education\, shares the impact of harnessing parent engagement and empowering student voice as pathways to academic achievement\, social-emotional development\, student advocacy\, and overall mental health for students\, and the impact that has in the classroom. Key takeaways include: \n\nConsistent parent/family engagement plays a critical role in students’ academic\, social\, and emotional learning\nStudent voice has the power to identify a child’s struggles\, joys\, and possibilities and change the trajectory of their future\nStudent agency\, when connected with parent engagement outside of the classroom\, has results that lead to higher education\, career opportunities\, and life preparedness\n\nThis recorded edWebinar is of interest to K-12 teachers\, school and district leaders\, librarians\, education technology leaders\, and school counselors. \n \nAbout the Presenters \nAndy Danilchick is the director of Penn GSE’s Project for Mental Health and Optimal Development. He leads the Public Schools Consortium for Mental Health and Optimal Development and the Possibility Mentoring Project. Andy is also a leadership consultant\, researcher\, and teacher educator. His resume includes years of business development and sales at Fortune 500 companies and startups domestically and in Europe. He started his first business at age 12\, went on to build the U.S. business for a Dutch start-up\, and spent time in London to open a new technology market. He built GAB-on! to connect with his kids and to show them how to be unafraid to try to start something from scratch and to be involved in an effort for the impact it can have. \n \nLearn more about viewing the live presentation and the recording\, earning your CE certificate\, and using our new accessibility features. \nJoin the Student Voice community to network with educators\, participate in online discussions\, receive invitations to upcoming edWebinars\, and view recordings of previous programs to earn CE certificates. \n\n \nGAB-on! gets every family talking\, about school\, every day. Family engagement in a child’s education improves all the “A’s”: attendance\, academic achievement\, agency\, and aspirations. GAB-on! gets parents engaged in their child’s learning consistently and actively at home\, so students are engaged every day at school. \nStudent-managed in school and student-led at home\, we overcome barriers that families may face engaging in their child’s education and meet families where they are in the engagement journey through consistent\, student-led conversations at home about their child’s day at school. We turn the concept of family engagement into action for all families.
