SUMMARY:Creating Equitable Early Learning Programs
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Dr. Ebonyse P. Mead\, President\, Educational Equity Institute; and Dr. Tameka Ardrey\, Founder\, Bridging the Gap Early Education Consulting\nModerated by Jennifer Lewis\, President\, Gryphon House\, Inc. \nSponsored by Gryphon House \nWatch the Recording\nLearn more about viewing the live presentation and the recording\, earning your CE certificate\, and using our new accessibility features. \nAddressing the unique learning needs of culturally diverse students requires a paradigm shift in the way we teach and care for young children. Adopting anti-racist perspectives and anti-bias pedagogies allows early childhood educators\, leaders\, and policymakers to create equitable early learning environments that are responsive to the needs of culturally diverse learners. By the end of this edWebinar\, viewers are able to: \n\nIdentify inequities in early childhood that impact the outcomes of children of color\nExplain the rationale for creating equitable early learning programs\nDescribe the importance of culturally responsive family engagement in early childhood\nIdentify ways to incorporate culturally responsive anti-bias practices to improve instruction and promote positive racial identity development\n\nCreating equitable learning programs requires teachers\, administrators\, and support staff to have a deep understanding of the racial inequities that children of color experience. To do that\, educators must deconstruct anti-Black racism and whiteness in educational settings as these concepts serve as the root causes of the racial disparities and biases present within early childhood education. As early childhood professionals concerned with the well-being of the whole child\, we have a responsibility to create learning environments where all children feel affirmed\, safe\, and welcome regardless of their skin color\, hair texture\, language\, socioeconomic background\, etc. \nThis recorded edWebinar is of interest to early childhood teachers\, librarians\, school and district leaders\, education technology leaders\, and other professionals working with young children and families. \nAbout the Presenters \nEbonyse Mead\, Ed.D. is the President of the Educational Equity Institute. DESCRIPTION:Presented by Opal Davis Dawson\, Faculty\, ASCD \nSponsored by ASCD \nWatch the Recording\nLearn more about viewing the live presentation and the recording\, earning your CE certificate\, and using our new accessibility features. \nEffective classroom instruction encourages students to build thinking skills beyond those of simple recall\, and one of the most effective ways teachers can do so is through their questioning strategies. Student responses to questions can provide important information to teachers on what students understand and can do and how they think about and use different concepts. Viewers of this edWebinar consider what it means to incorporate rigor into the classroom and how they may use questioning strategies to engage students in deeper thinking. \nWe use specific examples from The Achievery\, a FREE digital learning platform created by AT&T designed to help connect students to a new world of digital learning through stories that spark curiosity and content that entertains and teaches. The platform features clips from some of the most popular\, well-loved movies\, TV shows\, and cartoons from Warner Bros. and Cartoon Network\, paired with lessons and learning activities that students can engage with wherever they are—at home\, in the community\, and in the classroom. \nThis recorded edWebinar is of interest to K-12 teachers and school and district leaders. \n\nAbout the Presenter \nOpal Davis Dawson is an author\, educational consultant\, coach\, and award-winning PreK–5 public Montessori school principal with nearly 30 years of experience in education.
