SUMMARY:Rethinking Attendance to Keep Every Student Connected to Learning and Belonging
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Kate Pechacek\, Former Teacher\, Current K12 Strategic Consultant\, No Isolation \nSponsored by No Isolation \nWatch the Recording\nLearn more about viewing the live presentation and the recording\, earning your CE certificate\, and using our new accessibility features. \nSchool absence has proven to be an incredible challenge—and so is the cost of disconnection. Students facing anxiety\, illness\, neurodivergent overstimulation\, or other challenges or circumstances that prevent in-person attendance often fall behind academically and socially\, making reintegration harder and increasing long-term disengagement. How can school systems respond with more human-centered approaches that keep students connected—not just to academics\, but to a sense of belonging? \nThis edWebinar explores how absence isolation affects student outcomes and school systems\, and why a return-to-school plan alone isn’t enough. We discuss how to design supports that are inclusive\, flexible\, and grounded in student voice—especially for those experiencing chronic or emotionally based school avoidance. \nWe look at promising district strategies and explore how technology can extend connection\, even when physical presence isn’t possible. You leave with frameworks and ideas to strengthen your district’s attendance-support efforts through a belonging-first lens. \nFinally\, you hear about how some school districts are taking an innovative approach to reducing absence isolation and bridging students back to the classroom to ensure every student is seen\, heard\, and included. This recorded edWebinar is of interest to teachers\, school leaders\, and district leaders of all grade levels. \n \n \nAbout the Presenter \nKate Pechacek currently serves as K12 Strategic Advisor to systems-improving edtech organizations and school districts\, including No Isolation\, and is the founder and CEO of OpendoorsEd. We now know that learning should be more active—it should be differentiated and personalized to the student; it should operate at their learning pace and help them achieve mastery. It’s one thing to know what learning should look like\, but it’s another to design school communities that actually create student-centered learning. \nThe Modern Classrooms Project has partnered with dozens of schools across the country to rethink instruction that centers students with mastery-based\, self-paced\, and blended-learning approaches. In this edWebinar\, the MCP team shares their new School Transformation Inventory and opportunities for leaders to continue growing their school’s capacity for student-centered learning. Students learn at different rates\, and the flexible instructional model allows all students to access the support needed while shortening the timeline from freshman orientation to revenue generation. He has worked in education for 17 years across the country. Dr. Cordia believes in the power of career programs to set students on a path to success\, providing access to high-skill work\, affordable college\, and military careers. SUMMARY:Mythbusting Early Childhood Education: How the Earliest Interactions Predict the Future and What’s at Stake Today
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Dr. Dan Wuori\, Author of The Daycare Myth\, and Founder and President of Early Childhood Policy Solutions; Anna E. Williamson\, M.A.\, Ed.\, and H.D.\, Chief Program Officer\, Agenda for Children; Dr. Bridget Hamre\, Co-Founder and Board Chair\, Teachstone; and Dr. Veronica Fernandez\, Vice President\, Content Development & Social Impact\, Teachstone \nSponsored by Teachstone \nWatch the Recording\nLearn more about viewing the live presentation and the recording\, earning your CE certificate\, and using our new accessibility features. \nJoin us for a powerful\, myth-busting edWebinar conversation that redefines what quality care looks like for our youngest children—and why it matters more than ever. \nA child’s early years are critical. Optimal development depends heavily on one-on-one interactions with stable\, nurturing\, and attentive adults. That means the adults providing early childhood care are arguably some of our most important teachers and educators—co-constructing our babies’ brains\, shaping the trajectory of their development\, and creating tiny humans who understand basic empathy\, sharing\, and interactions with others. \nWith so much at stake today\, it’s critical that we separate facts from fiction to transform our country’s approach to early childhood education (ECE). \nIn this edWebinar\, Dr. Bridget Hamre is joined by Dr. Dan Wuori\, author of The Daycare Myth and Founder and President of Early Childhood Policy Solutions\, Anna Williamson\, Chief Program Officer at Agenda for Children\, and Dr. Veronica Fernandez\, Vice President of Content Development & Social Impact at Teachstone\, for a candid\, research-backed discussion on: \n\nWhy babies aren’t “too young” to learn\nWhat great interactions really look like—for educators and parents\nHow and why districts should support quality ECE to ensure better student outcomes in their communities\nHow we can expand access without compromising quality\nHow to cut through political noise to drive impactful\, lasting change\n\nThis recorded edWebinar is of interest to PreK-3 teachers\, school leaders\, and district leaders. \n \n \nAbout the Presenters \nWith more than 30 years of leadership in early childhood education and policy\, Dr. Dan Wuori is one of the field’s most respected bipartisan policy experts and a trusted voice on parenting and child development. His book\, The Daycare Myth: What We Get Wrong About Early Care and Education (and What We Should Do About It)\, raises critical and costly disconnects between the science of early development and our approach to public policy. An accomplished writer\, public speaker\, and policy advisor\, Dr. Wuori is the Founder and President of Early Childhood Policy Solutions and Strategic Advisor on Early Childhood at the Saul Zaentz Charitable Foundation. A former kindergarten teacher and school district administrator\, Dr. Wuori served as Deputy Director of South Carolina First Steps to School Readiness—the state’s comprehensive\, public-private early learning initiative—from 2005-2018. He lives in Columbia\, South Carolina. \n \nAnna E. Williamson serves as Chief Program Officer at Agenda for Children in New Orleans\, Louisiana\, a 40-year-old child advocacy organization that works at the intersection of research\, policy\, and practice to advance a unified approach to improve the lives of young children\, their families\, and the early childhood systems that support them. Anna brings 20 years of leadership experience working in education nonprofits\, family foundations\, and schools. Prior to this\, Anna was a school administrator and assessment coordinator at an early childhood program in Texas\, and Associate Director at The CityBridge Foundation. Anna completed her M.A. in early childhood special education and human development at The George Washington University in 2013. Dr. Hamre is a co-author of the Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS) and\, in partnership with Dr. Robert Pianta\, led the use of CLASS to scale as an assessment and professional development tool nationwide. She collaborates with the Office of Head Start on their CLASS implementation as a part of the federal monitoring process and consults with numerous states on their Quality Rating and Improvement Systems. Dr. Hamre received her bachelor’s degree from the University of California\, Berkeley\, and her master’s degree and doctorate in clinical and school psychology from the University of Virginia. \n \nVeronica A. Fernandez\, Ph.D.\, has extensive experience in early care and education\, both as a practitioner and researcher. She comes from a family of early educators; in fact\, her mom owned and directed a preschool for over 25 years\, where Dr. Fernandez worked while growing up. After obtaining a B.S. in education\, specializing in varying exceptionalities and with a TESOL certification\, she taught there as a preschool teacher and then served as a curriculum specialist. She is involved in and leads various advocacy efforts at the local\, state\, and national levels. Dr. Fernandez obtained an M.S. and Ph.D. in developmental psychology. Her research centers around understanding and improving the quality of early learning experiences of infants\, toddlers\, and preschoolers.
