SUMMARY:Music and Early Learning: Supporting Families in Making Music at Home
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Dr. Lili M. Levinowitz\, Director of Research\, Music Together Worldwide\, and Professor Emeritus\, Rowan University\nHosted by Lisa Chouteau\, Senior Video Producer and Manager of Video Production\, Music Together Worldwide \nSponsored by Music Together \nWatch the Recording\nGet a CE Certificate for this edWebinar Learn more \nThis edWebinar explores the ways in which participatory and enjoyable adult-child music activities in live\, synchronous\, and asynchronous learning experiences can engage parents and caregivers in their child’s learning\, enhance the home learning environment\, promote family engagement with the school\, and support a strong child-teacher-family connection. \nFamily engagement in early childhood has been viewed as a predictor of children’s early learning skills and later school success. Now\, with more young children and educators engaged in distance learning\, and parents and caregivers finding themselves in the position of educator-at-home\, it’s even more important to find enjoyable\, quality\, and accessible ways to engage parents and caregivers in their child’s early learning. Music can be an enjoyable\, cognitively stimulating\, and literacy-rich activity for children and parents to engage in together. \nThis edWebinar provides ideas for involving parents in their child’s music learning and music making at home. Educators who work with young children in daycares\, preschools\, pre-kindergarten\, and kindergarten classes will gain ideas for engaging young children and their parents and primary caregivers in music learning experiences that use developmentally appropriate music activities to not only support music development but also provide parents with new ways to use music throughout their day\, supporting their child’s learning at home\, relieving parent and caregiver stress\, getting kids up and moving\, and just having fun as a family. \n \nAbout the Presenter \nLili M. Levinowitz\, Ph.D. is Professor Emeritus of Music Education at Rowan University. She is the co-author of the early childhood music and movement program\, Music Together\, and Director of Research for Music Together Worldwide. Dr. Levinowitz is considered a national authority on early childhood music and is actively involved in teaching very young children as well as graduate students. Her articles appear frequently in professional journals and popular magazines. She received her M.M. and Ph.D. from Temple University and her B.M. from Westminster Choir College. \n \nAbout the Host \nLisa Chouteau is the Music in Early Learning edWebinar series host. She is the senior video producer and manager of video production at Music Together Worldwide and holds a B.S. in business administration\, training\, and development from The College of New Jersey. Lisa is also an Emmy Award-winning television producer of public affairs and educational programming for Public Television and cable networks across the country. \n  \nJoin the Music in Early Learning community to network with educators\, participate in online discussions\, receive invitations to upcoming edWebinars\, and view recordings of previous programs to earn CE certificates. \n\nAt Music Together\, we understand the importance of music in early childhood—from birth\, in fact. Because the truth is\, most people are born with enough music aptitude to play in a symphony orchestra when they are adults\, if they choose. But first we must learn how to “speak music”—to take the musical instrument we all have\, ourselves\, developing that musical capacity from a very young age. The sounds we make\, our movements\, our rhythms—these are the building blocks of music and of early childhood learning. And that’s what Music Together is all about.

SUMMARY:Custom Curriculum Creation and Copyright: The Basics
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Chloe Duchesne\, Education Services Coordinator\, Copyright Clearance Center; and Chris Posa\, Marketing Director K-12\, XanEdu Publishing\, Inc.\nHosted by Kelly Head\, Marketing Manager\, XanEdu Publishing\, Inc. \nCo-sponsored by Copyright Clearance Center and XanEdu Publishing\, Inc. \nWatch the Recording\nGet a CE Certificate for this edWebinar Learn more \nEasy access to information along with the increased use of OERs (Open Educational Resources) have been instrumental to the exponential growth of curriculum leaders creating their own classroom materials. But creating\, curating\, and delivering the various types of content presents a number of challenges including one often overlooked yet important aspect: copyright law. \nMost curriculum leaders aren’t familiar with the copyright protections of the materials they compile or the circumstances in which their use is allowed. That can lead to inadvertent violations\, which not only jeopardize the curricula built upon them\, but in some cases can also have legal ramifications. The good news is this risk can be easily averted with a cursory understanding of U.S. copyright law and the implications of using and sharing copyrighted information in the classroom. \nIn this edWebinar\, learn how to avoid potential infringement as they develop curriculum materials and: \n\nBe introduced to the purpose and basics of copyright\nGain an understanding of “Exclusive Rights”\nGet clarification on how “Public Domain” applies to certain materials/works\n\nViewers will also receive a new whitepaper that spotlights the work districts are doing to pursue custom content creation and curation. It explores why those districts are venturing into what has historically been uncharted territory and how they are addressing the challenges they find there. \nThis recorded edWebinar will be of interest to K-12 teachers\, librarians\, school and district leaders\, superintendents\, assistant superintendents\, curriculum directors and coordinators (cross-subject and subject-aligned). \n \nAbout the Presenters \nChloe Duchesne is the Educational Services Coordinator at Copyright Clearance Center (CCC). Since joining CCC in 2019\, she has developed an appreciation for the concerns and needs of content users worldwide. Her position in the Education Department allows her to stay up to date on the most current and interesting issues in the industry. Chloe hopes to improve copyright understanding and compliance for program participants and share with them best practices and real-world examples. \n \nChris Posa is the K-12 Marketing Director with XanEdu. Most of his career – 20 years and counting – has been spent in the education industry\, primarily with research resource providers Gale and ProQuest. This model of anytime\, anywhere learning involves a combination of in-class\, at-home\, online\, and offline learning. It’s more important now than ever to empower our students to easily capture and document evidence of learning in real-time\, regardless of where the learning is taking place. \nKeeping digital portfolios at the core of your work with students is key to building habits of documentation\, making learning visible\, and carrying on an ongoing conversation about growth with each student. \nMaking learning visible through documentation provides educators information about students’ learning and progress that may not be evident in formal assessments\, checklists\, and standardized tests. And it provides students with a space to see and engage with their own growth over time. \nIn this edWebinar\, explore: \n\nWhat is documentation & why use documentation?\nHow do I use documentation to assess my 21st-century learners?\nHow do portfolios help me make student learning visible?\nHow do I empower my students to drive their own learning and showcase their growth with a digital portfolio in remote\, blended\, and classroom environments?\nWhat does portfolio assessment look like at varying grade levels?\n\nThis recorded edWebinar will be of interest to elementary through high school teachers and school and district leaders. \n \nAbout the Presenter \nLaura Heyes is an inquiry-based teacher who is passionate about teaching and learning\, fueled by her experience within the areas of curriculum development\, technology\, and transformational teaching.
