SUMMARY:The Metacognitive Student: How to Teach Academic\, Social\, and Emotional Intelligence in Every Content Area
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Richard K. Cohen\, Author and Educational Speaker\, Solution Tree \nSponsored by Solution Tree \nWatch the Recording\nLearn more about viewing the live presentation and the recording\, earning your CE certificate\, and using our new accessibility features. \nToday\, more K-12 students are dealing with more academic\, social\, and emotional stressors than ever before. Students of all ages are becoming more and more dependent upon adults to calm their emotions\, complete challenging academic tasks\, and resolve social conflicts that arise each day. There is just not enough time for the adults at school to help every child in need. \nView this edWebinar to see how one simple\, evidence-based\, metacognitive strategy develops every student into an autonomous critical thinker and problem solver across academic content areas and social and emotional contexts. With just an eye-dropper dose of the metacognitive strategy called “Structured SELf-Questioning” sprinkled into already-existing daily routines\, classroom management systems\, and every academic state standards-aligned curriculum\, student outcomes and independence dramatically increase. You also see video examples of preschoolers being aware of and managing their emotions. Learn a practical way to engage all K-12 students in self-directed learning and take away ideas and reproducibles for practical applications in your classroom tomorrow to develop your students as the CEOs of their own brains\, emotions\, and learning. \nThis recorded edWebinar is of interest to K-12 teachers and school and district leaders. \n  \nAbout the Presenter \nRichard K. SUMMARY:Bite-Sized Digital Citizenship: Scaffolding Big Ideas for Early Elementary Students
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Erikk Henderson-Hood\, Education Content Manager\, Common Sense Education; and Jennifer Ehehalt\, Sr. Regional Manager\, Common Sense Education \nSponsored by Common Sense Education \nWatch the Recording Listen to the Podcast \nLearn more about viewing the live presentation and the recording\, earning your CE certificate\, and using our new accessibility features. \nIntroducing digital citizenship can sometimes feel a little overwhelming\, especially when you have limited class time. You may be wondering: When should I talk to my students about it? What are the relevant issues I should bring up? How do I make these conversations fun and engaging? How do I include parents in these conversations? \nIt is never too early to talk to your kids about their digital lives and to help them practice digital citizenship. Research shows kids are getting access to devices at a younger age and that tech plays a role in almost every aspect of their lives—from how they connect with friends to how they learn at school. \nCommon Sense Education just launched the Meet the Digital Citizens series to help kids get to know the friendly characters even better. Each lesson plan connects a character to a foundational digital citizenship concept in a way that’s easy for younger kids to understand. In this edWebinar\, the presenters talk through how these new lessons can be integrated into daily routines\, SEL initiatives\, and family engagement. Additionally\, they discuss other ways to use these free lessons to build a positive classroom culture and integrate digital citizenship into bite-sized activities. \nThis recorded edWebinar is of interest to K-3 teachers\, librarians\, and school leaders. \n\nAbout the Presenters \nErikk Henderson-Hood is an education content manager at Common Sense Education with the Digital Citizenship Team. Prior to Common Sense\, Erikk was a classroom educator for almost a decade\, teaching middle school\, high school\, and first-year college students. Erikk loves using his creativity to design curricula that engage students and families in healthy conversations around the intersection of media and social-emotional learning. Erikk holds a B.A. from Baylor in sociology and an M.A. in rhetoric from UTEP with a focus on games and learning. He has been a speaker at Microsoft’s Hack the Classroom on remixing\, a panelist discussing collaboration at the Northwest Council for Computer Education\, and a teacher-scholar for the National Endowment for the Humanities. Erikk enjoys making time-lapse and drone videos; watching film trilogies (especially ones about apes\, hobbits\, and cornettos); and spending time with his partner\, their Great Dane\, and their son. \n\n \nAs Sr. Regional Manager\, Jennifer Ehehalt designs and delivers high-quality professional development opportunities for educators across the country. She spotlights thought leaders by creating and moderating conversations on timely topics relevant to digital teaching and learning. When attending Jennifer’s edWeb sessions\, participants know they’ll leave with concrete strategies from the field\, including how to build a positive school culture\, how to use straightforward templates to guide challenging conversations\, and family engagement implementation ideas. \n  \n\nLearn more about viewing the live presentation and the recording\, earning your CE certificate\, and using our new accessibility features. \nJoin the Digital Learning & Leadership community to network with educators\, participate in online discussions\, receive invitations to upcoming edWebinars\, and view recordings of previous programs to earn CE certificates. \n\n \nCommon Sense Education develops high-quality digital citizenship programs and digital teaching resources\, providing educators and students with the digital learning tools they need to harness the power of technology for life.
