Our earliest ancestors looked to the sky and imagined heroes\, monsters\, animals\, and more residing in the stars. Often there were stories created to accompany the pictures; these stories explained how those constellations came to be in the sky. \nIn this recorded edWebinar\, we explore: \n\nWhat a constellation is\nSeveral practical reasons why people created constellations and constellation stories\nHow different peoples from around the world connected the dots in the sky to make constellations—or in some cases\, how they created constellations without connecting any dots\nWhat constellation pictures and stories can tell us about the people who created them\n\nUsing planetarium software\, we virtually visit several different locations on Earth. You will see the stars and constellations from each location\, and we will share sky stories and fun facts for each location. We will also provide recommendations on resources for learning more. \nThis recorded edWebinar is particularly applicable to kindergarten through sixth-grade teachers but will be of interest to anyone teaching history or social sciences.  \n \nAbout the Presenters \nKarrie Berglund is a co-founder of Digitalis. DESCRIPTION:Presented by Sara Smith\, Creative Director\, FableVision Learning; and Stephanie Corrente\, Senior Learning Leader\, Eduscape \nSponsored by FableVision Learning and Eduscape \nWatch the Recording\nClosed captioning will be added to the recording within 2 weeks of the live presentation.\nGet a CE Certificate for this edWebinar Learn more \nCreativity is not art. It is a mindset that impacts both social and emotional well-being and problem-solving for teachers. Creativity can be developed; it is not inherited. Thus\, a teacher with a creative mindset approaches challenges of the school structure differently and approaches challenges displayed by students differently. A teacher with a creative mindset develops a teaching style that imbues this mindset in their students and provides students with creative tools. Thus\, the creative teacher creates a positive feedback loop and can impact outcomes. \nIn this recorded edWebinar\, viewers will: \n\nReview what creativity is and what it looks like in the classroom\nExplore a framework to use to understand the principles\nDiscover the interplay of creativity to SEL and STEM\nLearn about tools that are accessible to classroom teachers to develop creativity skills\n\nThis recorded edWebinar will be of interest to preK-12 teachers\, school and district leaders\, librarians\, STEM teachers and coaches\, and curriculum directors. \n \nAbout the Presenters \nSara Smith is Creative Education Development Manager for FableVision Learning. SUMMARY:Math Processes for All Young Learners: Setting the Stage for Long-Term Success in Numbers and Operations – Part 1
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Sara Delano Moore\, Ph.D.\, Director of Professional Learning\, ORIGO Education \nSponsored by ORIGO Education \nWatch the Recording\nClosed captioning will be added to the recording within 2 weeks of the live presentation.\nGet a CE Certificate for this edWebinar Learn more \nWe often think of mathematics skills as beginning with counting. While this is one of the early skills we assess\, there are other mathematical reasoning processes that are foundational to school mathematics. Research tells us that early mathematics skills are a better predictor of adult socioeconomic status (SES) than are childhood SES or reading achievement. Developing these foundational beginning processes is critical to establishing this firm foundation. In addition\, students who struggle may have gaps in these beginning processes which impact many domains of mathematics. Supporting these learners to shore up these foundations is equally essential. \nIn part one of this two-part series\, Dr. Sara Delano Moore shares an overview of the five beginning processes as well as a deeper look at how they impact student understanding of numbers and operations. How does understanding attributes support developing understanding of numbers? What are the roles of comparing and ordering in this progression? We share activities for young learners to establish the foundation as well as resources that could support intervention in these areas for school-age learners. Watch Sara to learn more about these essential beginning processes for mathematics and how they can support your students. \nThis recorded edWebinar will be of interest to teachers\, school leaders\, and math leaders and coaches of the preK through elementary levels.  \nMath Processes for All Young Learners: Setting the Stage for Long-Term Success in Geometry and Measurement – Part 2 \n \nAbout the Presenter \nSara Delano Moore\, Ph.D. serves as Director of Professional Learning and Chair of the Mathematics Advisory Board at ORIGO Education. A fourth-generation educator\, Sara’s work emphasizes the power of deep understanding and multiple representations for learning mathematics. Bedell\, Superintendent\, Kansas City Public Schools (MO)\nModerated by Dr. Valerie Truesdale\, Assistant Executive Director\, AASA\, The School Superintendents Association \nHosted by AASA\, The School Superintendents Association \nAASA’s Leadership Network\, providing premier professional learning for educational leaders \nWatch the Recording Listen to the Podcast \nClosed captioning will be added to the recording within 2 weeks of the live presentation.\nGet a CE Certificate for this edWebinar Learn more \nKansas City Public Schools (KCPS) has had an intentional and concentrated focus on equity over the last five years. Please watch Superintendent Dr. Mark Bedell as he speaks about structural racism and its lasting impact on the Kansas City community. Highlighting the impact of redlining\, which was birthed in Kansas City and eventually replicated across the country\, this recorded conversation also covers the juggernaut of uneven economic development that perpetuates systemic racist practices financially. \nWatch Dr. Bedell in learning what KCPS has done through an equity policy\, an equity funding model\, the creation of an office of equity and innovations division\, the elimination of oppressively written language in the Code of Student Conduct and the unpacking of policies to align with the equity policy. Dr. Bedell will share ways school districts can direct school system resources and programs so every student has the opportunity to reach his or her greatest potential. \nThis presentation will be of particular value to school superintendents\, K-12 school and district leaders\, and aspiring leaders. \n \nAbout the Presenter \nKansas City Public Schools Superintendent Mark T. Bedell\, Ed.D. is a talented\, caring teacher and administrator and one of the top urban public-school leaders in the United States. As the child of a working-class family in upstate New York\, he overcame significant challenges and was inspired to take his education seriously by teachers and other caring adults who pushed him to achieve his dreams. \nHis educational experience and leadership made Dr. Bedell a natural choice for the superintendent’s post at KCPS in 2016. With guidance from students\, parents\, staff and partners\, Dr. Bedell crafted and enacted first a post-entry plan and later a five-year strategic plan which placed student achievement at the center of the school system’s work\, made the central office more effective and efficient\, improved School Board governance\, and increased staff skills and morale. In partnership with Metropolitan Community College and the Full Employment Council of Greater Kansas City\, he led the effort to launch a Middle College Program to give 17- to 24-year-olds who never finished school an opportunity to earn a high school diploma and enter college. \nIn June 2018\, Dr. Bedell and the KCPS School Board created an innovative equity policy to direct the school system’s resources and programs so that every student has the opportunity to reach his or her greatest potential. Dr. Bedell has received many recognitions\, including being named a “Superintendent to Watch” by the National School Public Relations Association and a “New Superintendent of the Year” by the Missouri Association of School Administrators. He is one of only 51 people selected to participate in the “Missouri Influencer Series” by The Kansas City Star. He was selected by the Kansas City Business Journal for its “Kansas City’s Power 100 of 2019” list. He has also been named to 435 Magazine’s Top 50 Power List as one of the most powerful people to shape the Kansas City region. Dr. Bedell was a featured guest on the June 23\, 2020\, episode of PBS NewsHour\, when he spoke about how distance learning was increasing inequity.
