SUMMARY:Inspiring Curiosity and Connection with Nature: Discovering the Wonders Right Outside Your Door
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Joe Rackley\, Biological Consultant and Environmental Educator\, Guidecraft\nModerated by Laura Wilhelm\, Ed.D.\, VP of Professional Learning Services\, Kaplan Early Learning Company \nSponsored by Kaplan Early Learning Company \nWatch the Recording\nLearn more about viewing the live presentation and the recording\, earning your CE certificate\, and using our new accessibility features. \nNature offers endless opportunities for discovery right at our doorstep—in the nearest tree\, bush\, or flower. Children take the time to explore and observe in ways many adults have forgotten\, reminding us of the joy and wonder that comes from slowing down and truly seeing the world around us. \nIn this engaging edWebinar\, we reconnect with nature through the lens of biology. You don’t need a doctorate to marvel at a pollinator at work\, wonder what creature left tracks in your flower bed\, or get curious about what could be growing in that strange ball on a leaf. When we take the time to notice\, we uncover the beauty\, complexity\, and stories hidden in the life around us—and perhaps rediscover something within ourselves too. \nAll organisms\, living and extinct\, are given names and assigned to families to help us better understand relationships and facilitate study around the globe. Understanding this naming protocol can help make sense of the species you and your students encounter. Whether you’re observing backyard wildlife or tackling classroom activities\, this knowledge empowers students to build deeper connections with the natural world. \nThis recorded edWebinar is of interest to PreK through elementary teachers. \n \n \nAbout the Presenter \nJoe Rackley is a Biological Consultant and Environmental Educator at Guidecraft. He grew up in rural Oklahoma exploring nature and hunting bottles in the remnants of a boom town. Joe has been a volunteer environmental educator and arts instructor during much of his career. Studying botany and zoology at a comprehensive research institution led to a first career as an academic advisor in zoology\, biology\, and wildlife and fisheries\, and later to a position as a student services director in a school of education in New York. He has spent the past 15 years in agriculture\, inspecting nursery plants and coordinating statewide surveys for invasive agricultural pests in Oklahoma. \n \nAbout the Moderator \nAs the Vice President for Professional Learning at Kaplan\, Laura Wilhelm\, Ed.D. draws on decades of experience teaching young children and early childhood professionals\, starting with toddlers in the 1980s\, followed by PreK-third grade in urban and suburban schools\, and as a university lab school director. SUMMARY:In the Age of Artificial Intelligence\, What is Left to Learn in the Math Classroom?
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Conrad Wolfram\, Strategic Director\, European Co-Founder and CEO\, Wolfram\, and Author\, The Math(s) Fix; and Jay Meadows\, Former Middle School Math and Science Teacher\, CEO\, Exemplars \nSponsored by Exemplars \nWatch the Recording Listen to the Podcast \nLearn more about viewing the live presentation and the recording\, earning your CE certificate\, and using our new accessibility features. \nTechnology is rapidly impacting all aspects of our lives. As educators\, how does the arrival of Artificial Intelligence (AI) impact how we should be spending our time with our students? With the technology to solve any math problem quickly and accurately at our fingertips\, should we spend large amounts of our time in the math classroom preparing students to compete with it to complete the same calculations? \nOr is there another way we could go? \nOf course\, students need to understand how and when to apply the algorithms and formulas of mathematics. Time must be spent building a conceptual understanding of these important concepts\, but what happens if we also spend time helping our students investigate and discover just how powerful the tools of mathematics can be in their own lives? What happens to students when they practice utilizing the rapidly advancing technology as a tool to help them solve challenging tasks based on real-world concepts? \nWould our students’ engagement increase? Would learning outcomes improve if students discovered the power and flexibility of mathematics for themselves? SUMMARY:Combining Learner Variability Research With AI: A New Powerful Tool to Personalize Learning
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Dr. Cassondra Corbin-Thaddies\, VP\, Partner and Client Engagement\, LINC\, the Learning Innovation Catalyst; and Megan Gross\, Program Support Specialist\, Supporting Inclusive Practices \nModerated by Barbara Pape\, Senior Director\, Learner Variability Project\, Digital Promise \nSponsored by Digital Promise \nWatch the Recording\nLearn more about viewing the live presentation and the recording\, earning your CE certificate\, and using our new accessibility features. \n\nSurveys of American public school teachers and parents tell us that teachers don’t have the time\, support\, or professional learning to bring an understanding and implementation of learner variability into classrooms. Yet\, learner variability has the potential to personalize instruction for each learner in order to improve academic opportunities and well-being. AI\, if used intentionally and with a research base\, has the potential to support teacher efforts to develop lesson plans that personalize instruction. \nA new AI-powered tool will be explored that combines Digital Promise’s research-based Learner Variability Navigator (LVN) and Learning Innovation Catalyst\, Inc.’s (LINC) new AI platform\, Yourway. LVN is a web app that curates the research on how students learn and strategies that can be used in the classroom today to support customizing instruction\, including for students with learning differences. Yourway is a customizable\, pedagogically trained AI education enhancement platform that bridges research to practice. LVN and Yourway are joining forces to strive to improve educators’ ability to create lesson plans steeped in research and easily accessible that can facilitate the creation of customized lesson plans. \nIn this edWebinar\, you learn about how learner variability allows you to understand the whole child and use an AI-powered tool to quickly and easily tap into LVN research to develop lesson plans that account for learner variability. You also discover: \n\nThe importance of whole-child teaching and learning\nKey factors of learning for grades Pre-K through 12 in literacy\, math\, and 21st century skills and accompanying strategies\, including for students with learning differences\nHow to use Yourway’s LVN integration to develop lesson plans\n\nThe LVN/Yourway team is also looking for teacher feedback on their latest tool. Educators who try LVN/Yourway and complete a short survey seeking their input on what works\, what doesn’t\, and how LVN/Yourway can be improved will get six months of free access to Yourway Pro.
