Rachel has her MA in curriculum and instruction from Vanguard University and currently supports teachers as an adjunct professor in the Graduate Program of Education at Vanguard University. \n \nKatie Weisberg started her career as a sixth-grade humanities teacher in a project-based context and found herself gravitating toward students at the margins—those who learned differently\, those who spoke languages other than English\, and those whom other teachers “warned” her about before they joined her class. These were the students who fueled her desire to reimagine the industrial system of schooling that is perfectly designed to get the results it currently gets: serving some while alienating and marginalizing others. After working as a special education teacher and dean of students\, Katie directed special education programs for the High Tech High network of K-12 charter schools in San Diego. \nInspired by the change that is possible at the system level when teams are energized by shared purpose\, Katie directed the High Tech High GSE’s Master’s in Educational Leadership program\, where she partnered with current and future school leaders to cultivate the dispositions\, mindsets\, and skills that are necessary for advancing equity and deeper learning in complex school systems. Katie is currently a Director of Strategic Partnerships at Learner-Centered Collaborative where she has the honor of supporting teams of educators as they reimagine schools and cultivate shared purpose. In 2017\, he was named a Top 30 Digital Trailblazer by the Center for Digital Education. Under his leadership at Middletown City Schools\, the district was awarded the ISTE Distinguished District Award in 2019. He testified before the United States Congress in 2020 to advocate for access and opportunity for all students. K-12 Dive recognized him as the Superintendent of the Year in 2020 for his advocacy and leadership to close equity gaps on a national stage. Marlon’s mission is to inspire educators to see themselves as empowered Unifiers capable of creating the types of learning experiences today’s modern learners need to thrive. \nLearn more about viewing the live presentation and the recording\, earning your CE certificate\, and using our new accessibility features. \nJoin the Student-Driven Learning community to network with educators\, participate in online discussions\, and receive invitations to upcoming edWebinars. \n\n \nThe Educating All Learners Alliance (EALA) is an uncommon coalition of organizations committed to resource sharing and community-building that supports the efforts of the education community to meet the needs of students with disabilities or learning differences. Do you have children in your classroom who have difficulty remembering the rules\, gathering their materials independently\, or completing activities in a timely manner? Do you work with children who find it hard to follow and remember instructions so they can complete activities on their own? These children may be struggling with executive function. \nExecutive function helps people remember what they need to\, attend to what they are supposed to\, and maintain control over their thoughts and actions so they can be successful in planning\, completing\, and executing goal-driven activities. Children rely on executive function skills to learn\, play\, and socialize throughout the school day. Children with strong executive function skills are better at problem solving\, socializing\, and completing schoolwork successfully. Executive function skills support: \n\nFlexible thinking\nTransitions from one activity to the next\nRemaining calm when something disrupts the usual routine\nSocial-emotional skills\nProblem solving\nTime management and completing activities in a timely manner\nSustained attention and focus\nSelf-control\n\nDuring this edWebinar\, viewers not only learn what executive function is\, they also learn strategies and activities they can start using right away to help all children develop strong executive function skills that they can rely on throughout the day. \nThis recorded edWebinar is of interest to early childhood teachers\, librarians\, occupational therapists\, special education teachers\, and school and district leaders. \n \n \nAbout the Presenter \nDr. Julie Tourigny is the Founder and Director of the Colorado Center for Pediatric Learning and Development.
