SUMMARY:Rethinking Formative Assessment: Use Learning Progressions to Fuel Student Success
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Dr. Karin Hess\, Author and Consultant\nSponsored by Renaissance® \nWatch the Recording\nGet a CE Certificate for this edWebinar Learn more \nFormative assessment is critical for showing us what students have and have not learned. However\, formative data does not always provide clear\, actionable steps for determining where students are on their learning path and how best to move learning forward. \nOne way to use formative data more effectively is in conjunction with a quality learning progression\, which provides a GPS-like view into how learning typically develops over time and where there are potential roadblocks. \nIn this research-based edWebinar\, author and consultant Dr. Karin Hess shows how to use learning progressions most effectively in your district to maximize the instructional value of your formative data. \nYou’ll also leave this recorded presentation understanding: \n\nHow progressions connect daily learning targets with long-term expectations\nHow progressions help you better monitor student progress and scaffold learning\nHow to use progressions to promote student agency\n\nThis edWebinar will be of interest to K-12 teachers\, school and district leaders\, assessment directors and coordinators\, curriculum directors and coordinators\, and instructional coaches and specialists. \nAbout the Presenter \nKarin Hess\, Ed.D. has extensive experience developing practical approaches for using learning progressions as the foundation for formative\, interim\, and performance assessments. She was formerly an associate at the Center for Assessment and has worked with multiple US states to develop grade-level learning expectations and test specifications. She is the author\, most recently\, of A Local Assessment Toolkit to Promote Deeper Learning: Transforming Research into Practice (2018). \n \nJoin the PD in Action community to network with educators\, participate in online discussions\, receive invitations to upcoming edWebinars\, and view recordings of previous programs to earn CE certificates. \n\nRenaissance® applies proven\, data-driven educational technology to amplify the effectiveness of classroom teachers so that students can achieve their full potential.

DESCRIPTION:Presented by Sara Delano Moore\, Ph.D.\, Director of Professional Learning\, ORIGO Education\nSponsored by ORIGO Education \nWatch the Recording\nGet a CE Certificate for this edWebinar Learn more \nFractions can be a painful topic for students (and their families). Learning about fractions sometimes means funny rules that don’t make sense and work that is not connected to the real world. In reality\, fractions are part of our everyday lives\, even when fractional numbers do not appear. In addition\, EVERYTHING we do in mathematics should make sense\, including fractions. This two-part series of edWebinars highlights fractions in our everyday lives. The January session focused on time and money\, while the February session will focus on sharing and scaling. \nDiscounts and price increases. Sharing with friends. Scaling art up and down. Each of these situations is an opportunity to apply and understand fractions. In this session\, Sara Delano Moore\, Ph.D.\, Director of Professional Learning at ORIGO Education\, will explore these connections\, including some of the challenges students face and the learning opportunities they provide. Join Sara to explore a variety of models and strategies to help students connect fractions with sharing and scaling. \nThis session will be of particular benefit to elementary level teachers and school leaders. There will be time for Sara to answer your questions at the end of her presentation. \nThis edWebinar is part of the Fractions in the Real World\n Series:\nFractions in the Real World: Time and Money\nFractions in the Real World: Sharing and Scaling \nAbout the Presenter\nSara Delano Moore\, Ph.D. is the director of professional learning at ORIGO Education and a contributing author to Visible Learning for Mathematics. Both presenters—Rich Mahoney and Graham Ryland—were inspired to pursue careers in STEM at a young age and are now working on the next generation of robotics in Silicon Valley. This edWebinar will offer a short historical review of the field\, links to free resources for teachers to draw on when introducing the subject of robotics\, and provide real world stories and examples from the industry today that can be shared in the classroom to make the subject more relatable and authentic. \nElementary and early middle school are critical times\, especially for girls\, to spark a passion for STEM that will help sustain them through the rigor of a technical education. Viewers will walk away with unique ways to leverage the attention-grabbing power of robotics and ignite critical thinking towards engaging students. This recorded edWebinar will be of interest to elementary and middle school teachers. \nAbout the Presenter \nRich Mahoney is the CEO and founder of Seismic\, a spin-off venture from SRI International\, where he was the director of robotics for more than seven years. During his tenure at SRI\, Rich led the transition of SRI Robotics technology into new ventures\, including Abundant Robotics\, Verb Surgical\, Motobot\, Redwood Robotics\, Grabit\, Robot Miner\, and Seismic. Rich’s team also delivered cutting-edge robotics innovations to DARPA and other government and commercial customers for healthcare\, security\, and consumer applications. Rich was the founding president of Silicon Valley Robotics\, and has more than 25 years of experience in research\, development\, and commercialization of robotics technology. He received his B.S. and M.S. from Drexel University in Philadelphia\, and a Ph.D. in engineering from the University of Cambridge\, England\, while attending on a Fulbright Scholarship. \nAbout the Host \nGraham Ryland is passionate about hands-on experiences that inspire young people to pursue careers in engineering and science. In this edWebinar\, discover how to successfully use a data-based decision-making process to match children’s needs with universal\, strategic\, or intensive instruction in a tiered model. Early education experts Judith J. Carta\, Ph.D.\, and Robin Miller Young\, Ed.D.\, NCSP\,  introduce MTSS as a system-wide\, prevention-oriented framework for delivering efficient services and supports that meet the needs of all young children and their families. \nIn this recorded session\, learn to: \n\nArticulate the MTSS framework’s core components that help improve outcomes for children and families and contrast these components with those that typically exist in early learning settings\nState how to use a data-based decision-making process to identify children who might need more intensive educational interventions and to monitor their progress during intervention\nDescribe a multi-tiered intervention model for early learning programs\nAdvocate for moving to an MTSS framework to drive change in early education across multiple system levels\n\nThis recorded edWebinar is ideal for all early childhood professionals. Learn how MTSS can help all young children achieve critical early learning outcomes and get ready for success in school.  \nAbout the Presenters  \nDr. Judith Carta is a senior scientist in the Institute for Life Span Studies and Professor of Special Education at the University of Kansas. That low-cost intervention is here and readily available. It’s called ability grouping.” – Paula Olszewski-Kubilius \nIn this edWebinar\, viewers will learn how to implement and successfully use flexible grouping to build student collaboration and to challenge all learners.
