SUMMARY:Improve Handwriting in a Tech-Driven World While Boosting Engagement and Creativity
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Raegan Marriott\, Fourth-Grade Student\, John McCandless STEM Charter School (CA); and Courtney Berolzheimer\, Program Director\, Blackwing Foundation \nSponsored by Blackwing Foundation \nWatch the RecordingListen to the Podcast \nLearn more about earning a CE certificate and our accessibility features. \nIn an increasingly digital world\, students are spending more time on devices and less time engaging in the tactile act of handwriting. This shift impacts more than just legibility; it affects fine motor development\, cognitive focus\, and the personal pride students take in their work. When we move away from the keyboard and back to the page\, we unlock a unique avenue for creative expression and mindfulness. \nThis edWebinar explores how to bridge this gap using Pathways to Creativity: The Lettering Series\, a free program with ready-to-use resources designed to make implementation simple for educators. We discuss why tactile skills like functional cursive and hand lettering are vital for building student confidence and visual literacy. You hear a firsthand testimonial from an elementary student who has completed the program and will share how lettering helped her build confidence and discover a new outlet for creative expression. \nWe walk through a comprehensive\, “grab-and-go” curriculum developed with professional artist Heather Martinez. Viewers learn how to integrate the program into their existing schedules to provide students with a lifelong creative skill. By the end of this session\, you have a clear roadmap to help your students slow down\, connect pencil to paper\, and rediscover the joy of creating something by hand. \nThis recorded edWebinar is of interest to elementary through high school teachers\, school leaders\, and district leaders. \n \n \nAbout the Presenters \nRaegan Marriott is a fourth-grade student at John McCandless STEM Charter School in Stockton\, CA. She is a motivated and curious student who enjoys challenging herself academically\, especially in reading and math\, where she takes pride in doing her best and growing her skills. She is also very active and athletic\, playing All-Star soccer and swimming recreationally during the summer. Outside of school and sports\, Raegan loves creative activities like making bracelets\, crafting\, and playing games with her friends. She has a fun and adventurous side when it comes to food\, too—her favorites include sushi and cucumbers with lime and salt. Raegan is excited to participate in the Blackwing Foundation’s lettering series and looks forward to expressing her creativity while learning new skills. \n \nCourtney Berolzheimer is a Program Director for Blackwing Foundation. With a master’s in STEM\, she brings a decade of classroom experience to her role. Courtney taught a variety of grade levels and subjects with a strong emphasis on math. She always looked for creative ways to bring art into her math lessons\, which opened the door for student creative thinking. She also spent multiple years teaching at an arts magnet school\, where she saw firsthand how the arts influence and inspire children across subjects. That experience deepened her belief in the transformative power of creativity and the importance of integrating the arts into every classroom. Courtney is passionate about students having regular access to art during the school day\, as not every school has an art teacher and not every student can attend after-school programs. Her ultimate goal is to empower teachers to provide students with quality art lessons. \nLearn more about earning a CE certificate and our accessibility features. \nJoin the Creative Arts in Education community to network with educators\, participate in online discussions\, receive invitations to upcoming edLeader Panels\, and view recordings of previous programs to earn CE certificates. \n\n \nBlackwing Foundation is a nonprofit dedicated to championing arts and music education. Inspired by the creative legacy of the Blackwing pencil\, we work to ensure that all students have access to the enriching power of art. \nOur flagship initiative is Pathways to Creativity\, a free arts curriculum designed and delivered in collaboration with expert artists and educators. Every pathway offers grab-and-go lessons — video instruction\, slide decks\, teacher guides\, and classroom activities — organized into skill-building sequences any teacher can pick up and run\, regardless of art background or budget. \nPathways to Creativity currently includes the Art Series\, the Lettering Series\, and the Poetry Series\, with new series in development. Everything is always free at blackwingfoundation.org — no login\, no paywall\, no special equipment.

They struggle because their work is misunderstood. \nIn today’s fast-moving education environment\, teachers\, leaders\, and families are often speaking different languages about the same initiatives. Policies feel unclear. Classroom realities feel unseen. Family communication feels confusing. Over time\, those small misunderstandings quietly chip away at trust. \nIn this engaging and practical edWebinar\, Dr. Chantell Manahan explores why even strong schools experience communication breakdowns and what educators can do to fix them. Viewers learn a simple\, powerful approach to translating their work across three essential directions: upward (classroom to leadership)\, downward (policy to practice)\, and outward (school to community). \nViewers leave with: \n\nA framework for strengthening communication across roles\nPractical tools to reduce jargon and make messages land\nA trust-building lens to evaluate everyday communication\nA 30-day action plan to improve communication without adding more work\n\nBecause fixing misunderstandings isn’t about saying more; it’s about saying what matters in ways people can actually hear. This recorded edWebinar is of interest to PreK-12 teachers\, school leaders\, district leaders\, and education technology leaders. \n \n \nAbout the Presenter \nDr. Chantell Manahan is a K–12 educational technology leader\, speaker\, and author focused on strengthening communication and trust in public schools. SUMMARY:Spring Family Engagement That Sets Up Success: Finish Strong\, Launch Stronger
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Amanda Ensor\, Former Teacher\, Current Senior Content and Learning Manager\, TalkingPoints; and Kate Pechacek\, Former Teacher\, Current K12 Strategic Advisor\, TalkingPoints \nSponsored by TalkingPoints \nWatch the Recording\nLearn more about earning a CE certificate and our accessibility features. \nSpring in schools is full—testing windows\, credit checks\, fall registration\, summer planning\, staffing shifts\, and transition conversations. It can feel overwhelming. The instinct is to communicate more. But volume doesn’t build confidence; relationships do. \nIn this final edWebinar of our three-part series\, we explore how district leaders can use a simple family engagement formula to navigate high-pressure spring moments with clarity and cohesion while setting up summer and fall for success. \n1. The Trust → Reputation → Improvement Playbook \nSpring interactions either strengthen or strain trust. When trust is protected in everyday moments—grading conversations\, transition messaging\, and summer planning—district reputation grows organically. \n2. Implement the Playbook at Two Levels \nEffective engagement must operate both around the classroom (district systems and alignment) and within the classroom (classroom-family partnerships). Digital engagement is essential to making this work at scale. \n3. Accelerate Through Co-Creation \nCo-creating your spring-to-summer-to-fall story with families deepens partnership and strengthens momentum into fall\, and helps you accomplish all of your spring goals more effectively. \nWhen districts prioritize trust and partnership\, spring tasks become smoother\, summer engagement deepens\, and fall launches stronger. \nThis recorded edWebinar is of interest to K-12 school leaders\, district leaders\, and education technology leaders. \nView part one: Nourishing a Strong School Culture with Sustainable Family Partnerships\nView part two: 5 Midyear Moves for Family Engagement: What to Keep\, Shift\, or Strengthen \n\n \n \nAbout the Presenters \nAmanda Ensor is Senior Content & Learning Manager at TalkingPoints\, an education nonprofit strengthening family-school partnerships through an innovative digital platform.
