SUMMARY:Creating Innovators: What Does an Innovator in a School/District Look Like?
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Thomas C. Murray\, state and district digital learning director for the Alliance for Excellent Education\nSponsored by Learning Bird \nWATCH THE WEBINAR RECORDING\nWhen we analyze the US education system and classrooms across our nation\, we see dramatic differences and gaps in innovation. Side-by-side images of classrooms from 1915 and 2015 yield eerie similarities in many schools today\, even with the 100-year difference. Some schools are creating dynamic cultures of innovation\, while others still resemble those from the industrial area. Why this dichotomy? How are today’s innovators different and what qualities make their schools stand out? \nThe Alliance for Excellent Education’s Thomas C. Murray\, one of the leaders of the Future Ready Schools initiative\, discussed key factors in creating cultures of innovation. Tom also shared a variety of districts and leaders who have gained national attention for creating unique learning experiences for students\, and how all districts can create cultures of innovation inside their schools! This session is geared for administrators\, teachers\, and librarians working in middle schools and high schools. \nJoin the Leadership 3.0 community to participate in online discussions with peers\, for invitations to upcoming webinars\, to view past webinar recordings\, to take a quiz and receive a CE certificate for a past webinar\, and for access to more resources. \n  \nThomas C. Murray serves as the state and district digital learning director for the Alliance for Excellent Education located in Washington\, DC. He has testified before the United States Congress and works alongside that body and the US Senate\, the US Department of Education and state departments of education\, corporations\, and school districts throughout the country to implement digital learning while helping to lead Future Ready Schools and Digital Learning Day. Follow Tom on Twitter @thomascmurray. \n  \n  \nWATCH THE WEBINAR RECORDING \n  \nLearning Bird provides teachers with the content\, tools and professional development to easily guide each student to success on their own personal learning path. SUMMARY:The World of Music Play in Your Early Learning Classroom
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Deanna deCampos\, Director of Educational Services\, Music Together LLC\nSponsored by Music Together \nThis program has been updated.\nVIEW THE UPDATED PROGRAM \nAs every early childhood professional knows\, children learn through play! Research also highlights how play is an important part of children’s development of the skills and dispositions that are essential to learning and classroom engagement. One such type of play activity that can support a child’s development and learning is music play. \nWhile most of us think of music class as teacher-led songs\, a developmentally appropriate music experience fosters child-initiated music play and provides the opportunity for individual children to focus on their own musical ideas – at all ages. Before young children can play music (i.e.\, perform)\, they must play with music! \nRegardless of their music background\, webinar viewers will discover the ways in which exposing children to developmentally appropriate\, non performance-oriented music activities supports a child’s innate tendency to play while also benefiting children’s overall development. They will learn ways to create a child-centered\, playful music environment that encourages and values children’s own ways of making music\, allows each child to take ownership of his or her music learning\, and affords each teacher an opportunity to maximize the learning benefits of play. The presenter also showed some great songs that early childhood educators can use in their classes to provide children with a rich musical playground. \nJoin the Arts & Music in Early Learning community to participate in online discussions with peers\, for invitations to upcoming webinars\, to view past webinar recordings\, to take a quiz and receive a CE certificate for a past webinar\, and for access to more resources. \n  \nDeanna deCampos is the Director of Educational Services at Music Together LLC. An accomplished actress and singer\, Deanna’s off-Broadway and regional credits include both plays and musicals. She has been a Music Together teacher and center director for over 20 years teaching children ages birth through 7. She co-founded ArtStrides\, a non-profit with the mission to help bridge the achievement gap by providing arts-based programming to children from economically disadvantaged families. Deanna has a B.A. Music Theater and Voice Performance from New York University and an M.F.A. in Acting from the Actor’s Studio School of Drama at New School University\, and possesses Orff Certification Level I as well as a Music Together Certification Level II. \n\nAt Music Together\, we understand the importance of music in early childhood—from birth\, in fact. Because the truth is\, most people are born with enough music aptitude to play in a symphony orchestra when they are adults\, if they choose. But first we must learn how to “speak music”—to take the musical instrument we all have\, ourselves\, developing that musical capacity from a very young age. The sounds we make\, our movements\, our rhythms—these are the building blocks of music and of early childhood learning. And that’s what Music Together is all about.

SUMMARY:Giving Effective Feedback to Your Students
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Susan M. Brookhart\, Ph.D.\, Consultant\, Brookhart Enterprises LLC\nSponsored by Triumph Learning \nWATCH THE WEBINAR RECORDING\nIt’s not the provision of feedback\, but the students’ use of it that makes feedback effective. In this two-part webinar series\, participants learned a framework for looking at how feedback is given and how it is used. We then applied this framework to examples of oral and written feedback. \nThe two most common forms of teacher feedback to students in classrooms are oral and written. In part two of this series\, participants analyzed examples of oral and written feedback\, evaluate their quality\, and judge their effectiveness. This recorded webinar applied the framework for looking at feedback from part one\, to examples in different content areas and at different grade levels. Watch Susan M. Brookhart\, Ph.D. to learn about providing effective feedback to your students. \nJoin the Assessment For Learning community to participate in online discussions with peers\, for invitations to upcoming webinars\, to view past webinar recordings\, to take a quiz and receive a CE certificate for a past webinar\, and for access to more resources. \n  \nSusan M. She currently works with teachers\, schools\, districts\, universities\, and states in the area of classroom assessment. She has been a classroom teacher and a professor and department chair in the School of Education at Duquesne University\, where she currently is an adjunct faculty member. In four case studies in Kentucky\, an outside research firm found that the use of Common Core Mathematics or Common Core English Language Arts with elementary and middle school students contributed to an improvement in the achievement levels on K-PREP\, Kentucky’s state-wide test. The number of students who performed at the lowest level (Novice) decreased significantly\, with a corresponding increase at the higher performance levels. \n
