SUMMARY:How to Build an Effective Community Service Program
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Dr. David R. Schuler\, Superintendent of High School District 214 and Co-founder of Transeo \nSponsored by Transeo \nWatch the Recording\nGet a CE Certificate for this edWebinar Learn more \nStudents gain skills to succeed and create powerful connections when they participate in community service. But too often\, students and staff track and verify these experiences with paper\, pencils and endless spreadsheets. \nIn this edWebinar\, learn how several school districts have ditched this antiquated approach and implemented a digital system that has captured thousands of hours of community service in one year while celebrating students and their impact. This comes as states are required to incorporate a non-academic indicator as part of their state ESSA accountability plans. Community service is a non-academic indicator that several states are using. \nWalk away from this recorded presentation understanding how to create a community service program that empowers both students and staff\, how to seamlessly track and verify volunteering\, and the kind of data and insights they can present to different stakeholders to tout public education’s economic impact on communities. Also learn how switching from paper and pencil to a digital system will help staff focus more on students and less on paper-based processes. \nThis recorded edWebinar will be of interest to middle and high school teachers and school and district leaders. \nAbout the Presenter \nDr. David R. Schuler\, a national education leader and superintendent of High School District 214 in the northwest suburbs of Chicago\, is passionate about the importance of community service learning and preparing all students to be college\, career and life ready. DESCRIPTION:Presented by Ezra Werb\, M.Ed.\, Educational Therapist \nSponsored by Free Spirit Publishing \nWatch the Recording\nGet a CE Certificate for this edWebinar Learn more \n“Pay attention!” No classroom teacher wants to keep repeating these words. This presentation is for teachers whose classrooms include students with ADHD or other attention challenges. For these students\, sitting in class seven hours a day\, five days a week…it’s like they’re hummingbirds stuck in a cage. It can be incredibly difficult and stressful for teachers to help them remain engaged. \nIn this edWebinar\, educational therapist Ezra Werb\, M.Ed. shares his strategies for lowering students’ anxiety\, raising confidence\, and increasing engagement. First\, he covers the basics about how ADHD and executive function (EF) deficits affect students’ classroom experiences. He then dives into the strategies of student support he’s fine-tuned over a dozen years. To illustrate how to implement these strategies and clarify why they can be effective in creating incremental successes\, he shares colorful anecdotes about his former students. \nThe strategies do not require you to change your teaching style\, alter your curriculum\, or be an entertainer. They’re all about small adjustments you can incorporate smoothly. Strategy topics include: \n\nIncorporating student interests\nIncreasing writing production\nLowering reading anxiety\n\nAfter the edWebinar\, you will better understand the impact of attention issues and have strategies you can implement immediately. This recorded presentation will be of interest to K-8 teachers\, librarians\, and school and district leaders. \nAbout the Presenter \nEzra Werb\, M.Ed. formerly a behavior interventionist and resource specialist teacher and currently an educational therapist\, has been working with students with attention deficits\, learning challenges\, and spectrum disorders in typical classroom settings\, resource rooms\, and one-on-one academic support scenarios for more than a dozen years.
