SUMMARY:Teacher Retention: A Camp for New Special Ed Teachers
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Jay Johnson\, Education Program Specialist\, Arizona Department of Education; and Mary Keeney\, Education Program Specialist\, Arizona Department of Education \nWatch the Recording\nGet a CE Certificate for this edWebinar Learn more \nThe Arizona Department of Education Teacher Recruitment and Retention has a new system of support for beginning special education teachers in their first or second year of teaching. These beginning teachers attended a kick-off summer PD called Teach Camp. Teachers received ongoing support throughout the 2019-2020 school year. At Teach Camp\, in addition to the expected topics such as special education law\, best practices\, and special education essentials\, we added a focus on teacher self-care\, which we came to view as an equally critical topic. The Department of Education collaborated with Phoenix Children’s Hospital to develop the self-care component of the program\, including elements of mindfulness\, physical movement\, nutrition and hydration\, and the physical environment of the classroom. \nWatch this edWebinar for an overview of the program\, and experience first-hand how new teachers learned that self-care can be simple things that can be integrated into their daily lives as teachers. This recorded edWebinar will be of interest to special education teachers of all grade levels\, administrators\, and school and district leaders. \n \nAbout the Presenters \nJay Johnson is a Recruitment and Retention Program Specialist at the Arizona Department of Education. He holds degrees in elementary education\, special education\, and educational leadership. His interests lie in the area of teacher retention and best practices to support special education teachers. In recent years\, he has focused on education planning\, collaboration\, and data-driven decision making. He has collaborated actively with several educational agencies in Arizona and school districts around the state. Jay has served on several conference and workshop programs and committees focused on teacher recruitment and retention. \n \nMary Keeney is a Recruitment and Retention Specialist at the Arizona Department of Education. SUMMARY:Going Beyond the ABC Song: Music That Naturally Supports Children’s Language Development
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Michelle Jamail\, Early Childhood Music Specialist and Music Together Teacher\, Bluebonnet Montessori School of Lakeway\nHosted by Lisa Chouteau\, Senior Video Producer and Manager of Video Production\, Music Together Worldwide \nSponsored by Music Together \nWatch the Recording\nGet a CE Certificate for this edWebinar Learn more \nIn this edWebinar\, Michelle explores how and why the content and process of developmentally appropriate music activities can support young children’s language and literacy skill development. She demonstrates how easy it is to use music to naturally support important areas of language learning including phonological awareness\, vocabulary development\, print awareness\, active listening skills\, and creative storytelling – regardless of your musical background. Recent research findings linking music and language learning will also be reviewed. \nViewers will be able to use the knowledge they gain in this edWebinar to use music more intentionally in their day-to-day work with toddlers and preschoolers\, and even infants. In addition to simply playing music in the background\, viewers will better understand how actively singing and creating variations of a song can support young children’s language development. Viewers will also understand that a range of songs can support this development\, even songs without words. They will feel more comfortable in their abilities to use music in their work and will be able to better communicate with other caregivers and parents the significant role that music-making can play in a child’s language development in these important early years. \nThis recorded edWebinar will be of particular benefit to PreK through elementary school teachers. \n \nAbout the Presenter \nSince 2007\, Michelle Jamail has been leading the music program at Bluebonnet Montessori School of Lakeway\, TX. In addition\, Michelle is a music specialist for Heartsong Music in Austin\, TX\, where she works with children from birth through age 6 and their parents and caregivers. Michelle has achieved Certification Level II Status from Music Together Worldwide\, having demonstrated outstanding achievement in teaching\, musicianship\, program philosophy\, and parent education. She frequently presents at national conferences including the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC)\, and facilitates workshops for state early childhood professional development and training organizations. Michelle studied applied learning and development at the University of Texas in the College of Education. \n \n\nAbout the Host \nLisa Chouteau is the Music in Early Learning edWebinar series host. She is the senior video producer and manager of video production at Music Together Worldwide and holds a B.S. in business administration\, training\, and development from The College of New Jersey. Lisa is also an Emmy Award-winning television producer of public affairs and educational programming for Public Television and cable networks across the country. \n \nJoin the Music in Early Learning community to network with educators\, participate in online discussions\, receive invitations to upcoming edWebinars\, and view recordings of previous programs to earn CE certificates. \n\nAt Music Together\, we understand the importance of music in early childhood—from birth\, in fact. Because the truth is\, most people are born with enough music aptitude to play in a symphony orchestra when they are adults\, if they choose. But first we must learn how to “speak music”—to take the musical instrument we all have\, ourselves\, developing that musical capacity from a very young age. The sounds we make\, our movements\, our rhythms—these are the building blocks of music and of early childhood learning. And that’s what Music Together is all about.

It is now more critical than ever that school district leaders know how to take appropriate actions to be sufficiently aggressive in getting ahead of cybersecurity threats and problems. \nIn this edWebinar\, three superintendents share their perspectives and experiences in dealing with the multiple issues that contribute to the complexity of managing and assuring cyber security in a K-12 learning environment. They examine the liability concerns when schools experience network security incidents and the impact those events can have on a district’s professional reputation and on teaching and learning. The legal requirements that school leaders need to know and how those rules change over time will also be reviewed. SUMMARY:Teaching Cybersecurity: What You Need to Know
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Casey O’Brien\, Executive Director\, National CyberWatch Center\nHosted by Jim Kowatch\, CEO\, Infosec Learning \nSponsored by Infosec Learning \nWatch the Recording\nGet a CE Certificate for this edWebinar Learn more \nIn 2014\, there were 1 million unfilled cybersecurity jobs globally. By 2021\, it’s estimated that number will grow to 3.5 million. Unfortunately\, current secondary school curricula across the country leave students and educators with minimal or no exposure to cybersecurity topics. \nMany K-12 school districts are looking for ways to create cybersecurity training programs. This edWebinar focuses on best practices for teaching and learning cybersecurity skills\, including the following learning objectives: \n\nWhat skills does the instructor need to teach an introductory cybersecurity course?\nWhat are some best practices for teaching an introductory cybersecurity course?\nWhere can instructors get help teaching their courses?\nWhat tools/resources do students and instructors need to teach an introductory cybersecurity course?\n\nThis recorded edWebinar will be of interest to middle school through higher education teachers and school and district leaders. \nAbout the Presenter \nCasey W.
