We hope that by sharing our experience\, attendees will gain insight into the importance of engaging target audiences\, like young teens\, in the development of a videogame intervention.  We believe attendees will learn about valuable methods that can be used to develop a video game’s narrative\, characters\, and artwork\, creating an authentic player experience. \nEducators\, researchers\, practitioners\, school administrators\, after-school and community program leaders\, and serious videogame design and developers will benefit from attending our webinar. \n Lynn E. SUMMARY:Embedding Music in the Early Childhood Inclusion Classroom
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Carol Ann Blank\, Board certified music therapist and Manager of Special Needs Services\, Music Together\nSponsored by Music Together \nWATCH THE WEBINAR RECORDING\nIf you view the recording and would like a CE certificate\, join the Arts & Music in Early Learning community and go to the Webinar Archives folder to take the CE quiz. \nInclusion is more than bringing all learners to the same early childhood early learning environment. Inclusion means structuring learning experiences with many access points to meet students where they are. Embedding music-making experiences in the inclusion classroom takes many forms and serves different purposes. Classroom management (i.e. transitions and rituals)\, social-emotional learning (i.e. self-regulation and peer relationships)\, and academic skills (i.e. pre-literacy and numeracy) can all be supported through the use of the elements of music: melody\, harmony\, and rhythm. \nThis webinar helps educators find ways to create additional access points into learning through the inclusion of songs and chants throughout the school day. Look at music activities that support social development\, language development\, and physical-motor development for ALL children in the early childhood inclusion classroom\, including special learners or those with challenging behaviors. Gain an understanding of the learning and social benefits of music while gaining some fun musical tools to include special-learners in the classroom experience — not only during music time\, but throughout the day\, as well! \n  \nCarol Ann Blank\, LCAT\, LPC\, MMT\, MT-BC (ABD)\, earned her Master of Music Therapy at Temple University in Philadelphia\, PA and is a doctoral candidate at Drexel University in Philadelphia\, PA. She responsible for developing training\, materials\, and mentoring for Music Together teachers who work with children with special needs and their families. In addition\, Carol Ann coordinates research for Music Together and teaches Music Together classes for children with special needs. \n  \n  \nWATCH THE WEBINAR RECORDING\n  \n At Music Together\, we understand the importance of music in early childhood—from birth\, in fact. Because the truth is\, most people are born with enough music aptitude to play in a symphony orchestra when they are adults\, if they choose. But first we must learn how to “speak music”—to take the musical instrument we all have\, ourselves\, developing that musical capacity from a very young age. The sounds we make\, our movements\, our rhythms—these are the building blocks of music and of early childhood learning. And that’s what Music Together is all about.

Many English-speaking young children struggle with learning to communicate effectively. DLLs face a double challenge of learning not only the academics (content/task knowledge and skills)\, but also the social imperatives associated with communication. To be successful in school\, they must navigate the cultural\, linguistic\, academic\, and social terrains. The book\, Connecting Right from the Start: Fostering Effective Communication with Dual Language Learners\, was conceived to offer a wide variety of strategies for fostering effective communication skills in DLLs that are needed to succeed academically and socially now and in the future. It also includes strategies for DLLs with special needs. \nLearning objectives include: \n\nUnderstanding how diverse early childhood settings are\nConnecting theories of second-language acquisition\, Gardner’s theory of multiple intelligences\, and Vygotsky’s sociocultural theory to practice\nApplying effective strategies of assessment of and for DLLs’ learning\nApplying developmentally\, culturally\, and linguistically appropriate strategies to address DLLs’ diverse communication needs\nUnderstanding the importance of and applying effective strategies for building strong school-family-community partnerships\n\nThis recorded webinar is designed to meet the needs of early childhood teachers\, infant through third grade and those educators who work with special needs. \n  \nDr. Jennifer J. SUMMARY:Effective Transition Planning for Students with ASD
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Nina Finkler M.Ed.\, LDT/C\, BCBA\, president of Nina Finkler Autism Services\nSponsored by Monarch Center for Autism\, STAR Autism Support\, and VizZle \nWATCH THE WEBINAR RECORDING\nWithin 24 hours after the live event\, a CE certificate is emailed to live attendees who logged in online with their email address. To get your CE certificate for logging in live by phone\, or for watching the recording\, join the Teaching Students with Autism community and go to the Webinar Archives folder to take the CE quiz. As a member of the community\, you’ll also have access to additional resources and online discussions. \nThe main purpose of IDEA is “to ensure that all children with disabilities have available to them a free appropriate public education that emphasizes special education and related services designed to … prepare them for further education\, employment and independent living…” In order for the last part to be accomplished\, effective transition planning must occur. \nWhile transition planning is one of the most important parts of a student’s education\, it is often misunderstood and mishandled. IDEA states that transition planning is required to start at age 16\, but the truth is planning and discussion about post-21 should start as early as possible. The earlier the team (school\, parent and student) starts discussing transition\, the earlier the student’s educational program can incorporate instruction. Many skills will require years to introduce\, develop\, master and generalize. Waiting too long may limit what a student can achieve during the years of guaranteed entitlement. \nThe process of transition planning should not fall solely on the school district. Educators can  help parents play an active role in planning as well as providing opportunities for instruction within the home and community. When having the discussion about transition\, there are five critical skill areas that must be considered and included in the Individualized Education Plan (IEP).  These areas are: \n\nCommunication\nSocialization\nBehavior Skills\nIndependence\nLeisure Skills\n\nThis webinar focused on these five critical areas and their importance. Specific strategies for incorporating these skills into the IEP\, classroom\, and home will be discussed. Finally\, discussion about how educators can help parents understand their role in the transition process will occur. \nThis recorded webinar will benefit preschool through high school educators\, CST\, and administrators. \nNina Finkler is the president of Nina Finkler Autism Services\, LLC based in East Windsor\, New Jersey. Ms. Finkler has over twenty years of experience working in the field of autism. Her experience includes extensive practical application of applied behavior analysis\, curriculum development\, professional/parent training\, consultation\, and assessment. Ms. Finkler has presented at both the state and national levels on various topics including effective teaching strategies for students with autism\, behavior management strategies\, and educational assessment. She holds a Master’s degree in Special Education from Rutgers University and is a New Jersey licensed Learning Consultant and a Board Certified Behavior Analyst. As we build more creative learning and teaching opportunities\, whether it is instructional strategies or digital resources\, we first have to ensure that we are creating a healthy\, growing school culture centered on student learning and teacher development. This attention to school culture needs to be ongoing and requires planning\, input\, and monitoring from the entire school community. No school initiative can launch or sustain unless a healthy culture is in place to receive and nurture it. \nDerek L. McCoy\, Principal at West Rowan Middle School\, focused on the characteristics of healthy\, innovative cultures and the high impact strategies that lead learner teams can use to build the healthy\, responsive cultures our schools need to help students maximize their learning and growth. \nReflect on these key issues around the culture at your own schools: \n\nDo we have a healthy\, evolving culture?\nAre we maximizing PD?\nWhat role does technology play in school culture?\n\nLearn about the practical\, strategic steps that his school is going through now to build an innovative learning culture focused on student growth and teacher development. This webinar is designed for leaders at all levels – teachers\, assistant principals\, principals and central office personnel. \nDerek McCoy is the principal of West Rowan Middle School in Rowan-Salisbury Schools. He presents and conducts workshops on improving student learning and achievement\, increasing teaching efficacy\, and creating a learning environment that will prepare students for their future. Derek’s approach involves innovative instructional design/best practices and developing and implementing relevant\, student-centered\, and flexible learning practices. By using design thinking as a framework for instruction\, we will explore the possibilities for students to engage in empathy\, seek new problems to solve\, then prototype and test their solutions. When students start to create material for a larger audience\, they ultimately need a way to make their ideas into physical realities. We will look at the pedagogy and the process to help make this happen. \nTopics included: \n\nDiscussion of the pedagogy behind the evolution of maker spaces\nExamples of maker spaces from around the world\nIdeas for how you can bring design thinking and making into any curriculum\n\nYou can also attend one of the EdTech Teacher Summer Workshops taking place in seven cities across the United States to learn from Beth and Douglas in person. SUMMARY:Harness the Power of Music to Enhance Learning
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Ellen Acuna and Alex Farkas\, Music Together In-School Services Mentors\nSponsored by Music Together \nWATCH THE WEBINAR RECORDING\nWithin 24 hours after the live event\, a CE certificate is emailed to live attendees who logged in online with their email address. To get your CE certificate for logging in live by phone\, or for watching the recording\, join the Arts & Music in Early Learning community and go to the Webinar Archives folder to take the CE quiz. As a member of the community\, you’ll also have access to additional resources and online discussions. \nMusic can be an incredible and enjoyable tool to use with children of all ages. However\, many early childhood professionals don’t realize that the means to do this are very accessible for any educator regardless of music talent or experience. In this lively webinar\, experience how easy it is to create a musically rich environment that promotes a positive learning atmosphere\, engaging children and enhancing the classroom environment. Learn how simple music activities can support children’s focus\, approaches toward learning\, transitions\, classroom management\, and the daily routine in early learning settings. \n  \nEllen Acuna has eighteen years of experience as an early childhood music and movement specialist working with children birth through age five and their parents and caregivers in a developmentally appropriate and research-based music and movement program. She has a B.A. from West Chester State College (now West Chester University) where she studied Speech Communications. In addition to being a Music Together In-School teaching mentor for other music and movement specialists\, she presents professional development workshops for music specialists and classroom teachers and has presented at national conferences. \n  \nAlexandra Farkas\, M.A.T.\, has many years of experience as an early childhood music and movement specialist\, and holds a New Jersey State Teacher certification for K-12 Music. Alex is a graduate of Westminster Choir College of Rider University where she earned her Bachelor of Music in Music Education and her Master of Arts in Teaching. She is also an active performer and musician and has performed at Carnegie Hall and Avery Fisher Hall under the batons of such distinguished conductors as Pierre Boulez\, Kurt Masur\, Lorin Maazel\, and many others. \n  \nWATCH THE WEBINAR RECORDING\n  \nAt Music Together\, we understand the importance of music in early childhood—from birth\, in fact.
